"Horrible experience with Kevin and his team. Long story short, he charged us $1100 to prepare our taxes and then never completed them and wont issue a refund or return our messages. Will have to go through small claims to get our money back. Longer story: We approached Kevin back in March of 2023 to file our 2022 taxes and review our 2021 taxes. We were already in an extension. We always prepared our own taxes in years past and had excellent records and spreadsheets with most of the info ready to go. During our first meeting with him he rattled off questions in a random order and took notes with a pen and paper, no standard intake form etc.. We told him we had capital gains of $xxx, sold two rental properties and were NOT 1031 either of them and had rental income and w2 income. A month or so later Kevin gets back to us and says ok you should pay $XX as an estimated tax payment to the IRS and will finalize the return in the mean time. We paid the estimated amount then. Around June/July, Kevin starts going into detail on our tax returns and identified that a w2 looked incorrect and indicated money earned in MA. We worked with our employer to fix that and got a new W2 issued, it took about 2 months to get that all sorted. It was around Sept when the W2 was sorted and were getting nervous about the extended filing deadline in October. Kevin assured us it wouldnt be an issue. In early October, we started bothering him about seeing the returns because we needed to review it before it was filed. He got ill or something and was slow to respond. He told us that there was an additional extension because of a Hurricane or something and that it wasn't due until Feb 2024 now so we had time. We told him we still wanted to get this sorted asap. A couple weeks later he said he had completed our return and we could pick them up but had to make payment first. We had not had an opportunity to review them and he would not release them to us unless we paid him , so we did. At this time he also informed us that we would owe an additional 100% in tax compared to what we already previously paid. We were flabbergasted and were asking how this could be? We gave him all the big ticket items up front so where was the issue. He told us we had capital gains and sold 2 homes and did not 1031 them so we would owe taxes on them. We told him yea, we know, we told you all of that up front when you provided an estimated amount. We then incurred additional interest penalties because we didn't pay the correct estimated amount back in March. We finally got our returns and reviewed the paper copies (he had no change log or year over year comparison to quickly identify big changes, like you would normally see). We went through them and immediately identified multiple errors. He had incorrect P/L figures for the rental which we already had split out in a table that summarized this in accordance with IRS classifications, we always did our own taxes in years past so we knew how to collect and record this information etc... He also did not have the correct depreciation values etc... We got back in touch with Kevin (he would not meet us in person to review) and only corresponded through this secure sms message system which was really annoying and difficult to have conversations with. He said OK, send me the correct info. We pulled all the associated documentation over the course of November and provided that back in December/early January. When we gave Kevin that information he then informed us that he was done working with us and would not be inviting us back for 2024. He has not returned our requests for a refund. Oh yea and also during the process he came back to us and said "Oh I see your filing a state return in MA, CT and ME, Ill need an extra $250" or something like that, We referred him back to our initial engagement agreement which identified those 3 state returns required but he "forgot" about it and didn't refer back to our agreement before hitting us up for more money."
"Kevin took care of us and made what he was doing clear through every step of the way in our tax preparation. He answered all of our questions thoroughly. I would recommend his services to all of my friends and family"
"Kevin went out of his way to fit us in during a busy tax season, and was able to promptly and skillfully complete and submit our taxes for us. In addition, he made himself available to answer any other tax-related questions we had, which was greatly appreciated. Highly recommend!"
"Kevin is prompt, professional, knowledgable and easy to work with! This was our first year not doing our own taxes and Kevin exceeded our expectations. He truly cares about his clients, the community and supporting local small businesses. We highly recommend you reach out to him for any and all accounting/tax purposes!"
"Kevin did such a great job guiding us through the complications of the tax process. We reached out toward the end of tax season in a stressful, last-minute rush. He jumped into helping us immediately and took us from owing money to getting money back. Can’t wait to work with him again next year."
