"I went into the Portland Hospital had a massive tumor in my lower abdomen that was going to burst any day. He put a plan together and took it out. It was not a normal procedure. My scaring is minimal. He came a checked on me and spoke to my husband about everything. He and or his staff called me several times after I left the hospital 5 days later. He saved my life. And if I have more tumors in that part of my body, which I will find out soon he will be the one I call."

"The office marked tests as being completed even though they were never performed instead of ordering the tests. The diagnosis and how to proceed, that was discussed at the appointment, varied drastically from the account that is recorded in the patient chart."

"Without clear lines of communication within a medical office, including one or two point-people to contact, a patient is faced with added angst and concerns, and this office continues to have that problem, even several years later. Also, I do not want "warm and fuzzy." I want a clinician who will answer direct questions, and be directly available for urgent concerns, and ensurance that the physician-surgeon will be "present." It is one thing to be a skilled carving a turkey, and quite another to follow up with good soup. Otherwise, one might as well seek out robotic surgery - at least you would get a robo-call afterwards. Surgery was not ordered in my case, but when it comes to it, I want confidence in communications and follow-up. (And even pre-pandemic, this did not occur)."

"Dr MacGillivray is extremely experienced and knows what he's doing. His surgical skills are very strong, he's knowledge about thyroid/ parathyroid issues. I do trust him surgically and my incision is in the perfect place to be only minimally noticeable. Follow up care from his office has been available, though not as responsive as I would hope. I do think he could listen to patients more, rather than minimizing concerns. He's a typical surgeon in that he was resistant to treat some complications that arose for me, but ultimately did treat them."

"Not impressed at all. He barely talked to me about what was going on. I asked about a biopsy instead of going in for full-blown surgery and he basically waived me off. I felt blown off. I didn't even see him the morning of my surgery - only saw a resident (who was great) and I didn't see MacGllivray after either. Post-op I had issues with my incision and he wasn't there for that appointment either. I now have several pretty ugly scars from the surgery it turned out I didn't even need - was told I'd have 3 small incisions and that was not the case. I didn't feel like cared about me as a patient at all. Would never recommend anyone to him."
