"I’m a former patient of Dr. Alfson. I only stopped seeing her because I moved out of state and when I came back, she had moved. She is one of the good ones. One of the extremely rare good ones. With Dr. Alfson I truly felt listened to. She is the one mental health professional I have worked with that I felt like actually cared what happens with me. If she and I happened to disagree on something, it was handled in such a way that I felt like an equal in decision making and not like I was a hot mess and she the professional. What I mean is of course she gave her professional take always but she didn’t bulldoze over me and seemed genuinely interested in my take on things. I wound up being very grateful for one of those corrections on her behalf because she caught and fixed a prior misdiagnoses from another psychiatrist and it wound up really helping me. It’s years later and I got the chance to read all of the notes on me from our appointments and it made me feel even more grateful. In reading everything I felt there was an accurate representation of me which is not what I’ve felt from almost any other medical “professional” in my life.
