"I had such a great experience with United Healthcare on Kilvert Street that I feel the need to share it. I am profoundly deaf. Although I have a special phone for folks who are hard of hearing (not a TTY) I struggle to talk on the phone. Until recently United Healthcare was my primary health care provider on a policy which had my ex-wife as the primary insured party. On March 31st of 2023 I was taken off that policy so I added Medicare Part B (with a Plan G which was also through UH), Unfortunately, Medicare did or could not see that I no longer had coverage through UH and my first two claims were denied for that reason. For two and a half days I struggled with the 866 number for corporate customer service. On day three I tried calling Kilvert Street. What a difference! Starting from scratch and talking with a profoundly deaf person, they got me the Proof of Lost Coverage form which I needed in about forty minutes. I want to offer special recognition to Ebony and my most sincere thanks. Ebony is a highly skilled professional, patient and pleasant, above all a problem solver. I owe all of this to her. I am retired now but, if I were looking to hire someone, I cannot imagine a better person than Ebony to be that candidate. United Healthcare should be very grateful to have Ebony on their team. Many thanks. Mark from Cumberland"
"I spoke to three different customer service representatives and was told incorrect information from all three! My doctor called and requested for someone to call me back from this insurer so I could receive treatment! No one ever called, no one ever did a GD thing to help me out with anything regarding my health insurance and I'm still going without treatment! United Healthcare could not be more unprofessional!"
"I’ve been waiting for my new updated cards since last October. They said they would update it and send it to the address every 7-10 days I’ve been still waiting till now and it’s about to be March. I spoke to 4 different people and they said the same exact thing. It’s still never been sent out at all I am highly disappointed.if your pregnant as well don’t go with this company because u won’t get anything right away when you call and ask a million times."
"This is a United healthcare vs Neighborhood Health comparison. It is not just about United but a comparison between the two plans. Neighborhood Healthcare of RI. and United healthcare. Neighborhood Health Integrity plan is a great health insurance provider. Very friendly and professional. They combine your Medicare and Medicaid insurance plans into one easy card to show the doctors if they request to see your insurance card. Neighborhood Healthcare answers the phone by humans and it's only after 2-4 rings. If you’re below the poverty level ( nearly $26,000? ) and are disabled you will never pay a dime for your health costs. They have a contract with Medicare/Medicaid.. Dental, hearing, non emergency transportation to doctor's appointments, and vision care included. Includes prescriptions as well. Premiums are taken out of your Social Security monthly payment amount. My complete monthly premiums are around less than $150.00 for either plan and if you do direct deposit you never see the premium. Note: I have recently switched to United Healthcare Dual Complete plan due to an Assisted Living Facility push. They said they are both the same. (Then why change?) They're not! It’s been since February 2,2022 and I already don’t like them so I may return to Neighborhood Health soon. I am constantly receiving bills in my United Health Portal. $650.00 for a visit to my eyeglass store for glasses and the exam??? My previously owned RayBans where half that cost. I’m not paying it as I know it’s covered but the “kid” in customer service in the "vision" department in Kansas (I live in RI on the northeast coast), said “you can always appeal it!" I said that I was "not going to appeal each bill you send me" “It’s your job to bill me properly” so it’s barely been 2 months so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt as so far, I haven’t heard from them. I never liked them as I heard that millions of dollars in lawsuits for fraudulently charging Medicare have been settled. Neighborhood Health said I could re-enroll anytime I wanted to so if I get anymore bills, I will drop them. Well, I did it. I returned to Neighborhood Health May 1st. United Healthcare will pay my bills until the end of April so no gap in coverage. I just felt that United Healthcare was too big and every time I called I was passed around the Country! UPDATE: 05/03/2022. I finally have had enough and re-enroled May 1 /2022 in Neighborhood Health. There were many reasons why I had to leave United so I made the move. Funny how they keep sending me bills. They just sent me a bill for $400.00 for dental work saying that my dentist was "out of Network” so I have to pay 100% of the bill! I checked first before I made the appointment and knew she was so, I looked her up in United's list of "In-network" doctors and she was indeed “in Network". I threw the bill in the trash. They always seemed to try to wiggle out of paying. I think they figure if enough customers get a bill they say isn't covered but it is covered the people may just pay it without questions. I'm thinking of the seniors here who trust everything. Plus, they have so many " need a referral or prior authorization so we won't pay because you were supposed to get United's permission for the procedure" that it's mind bloggling. Or "we have determined that it was not medically necessary" and therefore you get charged. I don't want United healthcare to overule my doctor's orders. Even some prescriptions needed "prior authorization!" They kept trying to bill me for things that were covered! Glad I'm done with them as I was never comfortable with their policies and procedures and requirements and got tired of fighting with them all the time. It feels good that I no longer am a customer of theres. Cutting up their card was a relief. Throwing the pieces in the trash was even better. Neighborhood Healthcare Integrity card says "member not to be charged." Co-pays and deductibles are non existent."
"UHC is a joke. I have had a chronic medical condition since I was a toddler and they CONSTANTLY change things that they cover with zero warning. I just received an atrocious bill in the mail for supplies that typically cost a few hundred dollars (still ridiculous but much more manageable) because they decided the distribution company I use is now out of network again with ZERO notice. Then when you call for assistance or to ask questions you end up spending 20 minutes talking to someone who isn’t a doctor about your overall health instead of getting to the point. I don’t want medical advice from an insurance company. I want accountability and direct communication regarding the medical supplies I need in order to stay alive. Would absolutely give them negative stars if it were possible."
