"I just got out of ICU after having procedure which turned into an emergency situation. I was seen by cardiologist at hospital and was referred to Maine Health in Scarborough. Cardiologist at MMC wanted me to wear monitor, gave me prescriptions and to set up an appointment with cardiologist in Scarborough. I’ve called twice and the earliest I can be seen is November 22nd. Called on SEPTEMBER 14th. I guess they aren’t too concerned when person was on ventilator and breathing tube and now has a-fib. Just another phone call, I guess, for them Eleanor RANDALL"
"I recently had surgery done by Dr. Christopher Tuohy on 7/25/2023. I never received a follow up call from his office on 7/26/2023 but I did receive one from my primary care at Intermed. 7/28/2023 I had to be readmitted due to a hematoma from a nicked femoral artery. Dr. Tuohy was on call at Maine Medical all weekend and never even stopped by to see if I was doing okay. He actually consulted with my roommate but never stopped by. This is not what you would expect from a doctor. It was his error and because of it another surgery and weekend in the hospital. I have severed my care from Maine Medical Cardiology and will not return. Intermed is working on getting me a reputable Cardiologist that actually cares about their patients. Cindy J. Kilburn"
"I found everyone from the front desk to the physician to be caring, helpful, and knowledgeable. The doctor spent time with me and didn't leave the room until I had all my answers and understood what was happening. Wonderful bedside manner from everyone involved in my visit. From the medical assistant performing the ECG to the physician the appointment was with. I'm very happy with the facility and the people associated with it. I would highly recommend this office to anyone with cardiac problems. Thank you MMP MaineHealth Cardiology for all your support and care."
"I wish they took emergency medical care of their patients more seriously. The dr's are almost impossible to get in touch with, especially in an emergency situation. I could not get in touch with my dad's cardiologist for 2 days, one day while he was in the emergency room. If you call, the main number goes to people in a call center. you have to ask them to put you through to the dr's secretary. The secretary will then get in touch with them. I did not know this and was having the call center send messages into the dr's inbox and he wasn't looking at them, for days. It was very scary to be with a heart patient and not be able to get in touch with his cardiologist for so long, especially as the call center people kept telling me the dr would call me back and he never did. I finally got put through to another cardiologist who gave direction, but it was the opposite of what my dad's actual cardiologist thought was right when we talked to him a week later. The only way I was able to get a message to my dad's cardiologist was by asking the other cardiologist to tell my dad's cardiologist that we were trying to get in touch with him. This seems super odd. Again, especially in an emergency situation. Apparently, the dr had someone covering, but I never got to that person because the call center just sends messages to an inbox that the dr's don't check, especially if they are in the hospital, so they could be unreachable for a week at a time. I was told the dr's do not read or return messages when they are on hospital duty. They apparently only know to check their messages if the secretary tells them. I wish the call center would have told me to talk to the dr's secretary, but apparently they didn't know to do that or that my dad's cardiologist might not be available. The call center told me they only know a dr is around and can be given messages if they physically see them in front of them. This seems odd. I tried to talk to someone about my experience. The person I talked to giggled through the whole conversation and didn't take it seriously. A cardiology center that doesn't take emergency medical care seriously is really scary. The dr's are great. They are comprehensive and kind and good at what they do. However, not being able to contact them effectively is a huge problem. I wish I could talk to someone directly at Maine Health cardiology about my experience that wouldn't laugh at me trying to find out why I can't, or the best way how, to contact a dr during an emergency situation. Maine Health Cardiology, if you see this please respond if there is anyone I can talk to outside the call center about my experience. Or someone who won't laugh about it."
