"I am retired and a car guy. Not a lot of discretionary income these days. I DO have a nicely restored 1999 Firehawk that I was willing to part with and had hopes that a dealer would do a straight up trade for some sort of "performance" truck.. i.e. 2nd gen Ford lightning. This would save me the sales tax (close to $2k) if I sold the Firehawk then ended up buying a truck with the proceeds. A little background story: I heard about a high end car dealer in MA and reached out to them hoping they could help me find a way to do a trade. The owner introduced me to his Sales manager, who also owned a 2nd gen lightning. I showed him my Firehawk and he thought it was nice with only 32k miles on the clock. He said, and I quote: "I'll find one for you.." I sent him tons of photo's, vids, pics and details about my Firehawk and waited patiently for a response. A month passes.. nothing, so I text him inquiring if he received my email and all the documentation.. His response? "Yes, got it. Not really worth it for us.. just not enough money in it..." To say I was bummed was an understatement... Since lightnings are getting very pricey for unmodified, low mileage examples, I decided to go to the next generation of Ford High Performance trucks: Raptor. Lo and behold, the team at Valley Auto Sales and Performance had one. Stock, unmodified and well maintained. Some repairs were needed but as is, the value of this Raptor was about what my Firehawk was worth. So I reached out to Matt Rowe, their sales rep. He was so patient and listened to my story about what I was trying to do with a trade. He is clearly a car guy and even though he didn't know much about 4th gen GM F-bodies, he was willing to learn. During our conversation, we face timed and I showed him the Firehawk and he showed me the Raptor. It seemed like this might be a trade made in heaven! So Matt reached out to co-owner Eric Cappella and filled him in on my proposal. Eric was honest and let me know he really didn't know much about the F-bodies either, so he asked for some time to do a deep dive into the breed. He learned enough to become interested in the deal and asked me to bring the Firehawk to their facility where we could inspect both vehicles. It went quite well with Eric smiling when I gassed the Firehawk for a quick rolling start to 60. Another true car guy! The Raptor was structurally sound, engine was strong and transmission shifted quickly and firmly... everything else is small potatoes to me as I am a DIY'er with plenty of tools and a lift. I had forwarded all of the info that I had accumulated to Eric so he could do some more research. After a couple of weeks, he reached out to me and said he was good with the deal. I couldn't be happier! These guys didn't start this business to get rich quick with big profits from each car sale. They are truly car guys and enjoy helping car buyers find and get into the car they aspire to owning. Eric could have easily said "No, there's no money in this deal for us" and sent me packing like the other dealer but he saw how much TLC I put into the Firehawk and my plans to rehab the Raptor with help from my Son in law and grandson, and realized he probably won't make a lot of money on this trade but he will make a gray beard retiree very happy. He may get some repeat business from a very happy and satisfied customer and perhaps a good review as well. If nothing else, he made a new carguy friend. Well, it may be a while before I can buy another car from this great bunch of car guys, but I can at least give them a shining review and strongly recommend stopping by and meeting the VASAP team. You can be sure they will do their best to help you find the car you are looking for. A++ Highly Recommended.
