"While staying in Edgartown, we took the very short ferry ride over to Chappaquiddick Island. Drove a few miles across the island to the bridge. Although the bridge did not have railing back in 1969, it does now. We were able to see a piece of history. If you’re going to drive over the bridge and up to the lighthouse do you need a four-wheel-drive vehicle because the sand is very thick."
"Feels good when you can cross with your vehicle and know that you can enjoy the beach driving."
"Incredible experience. It takes effort to get there from the mainland- ferry, 3 miles paved road and approx 1 mile of sand road. The infamous bridge has been removed and updated/ rebuilt. Only resident pass holders can actually drive over it with 4 wheel drive vehicles. 200 yards past the bridge are pristine dunes and a quiet beach. We carried chairs and a cooler for a secluded picnic."
"Serene place and historical because of the tragedy. Not the original Bridge since this one has rails. Remnants of the old Bridge can be seen. Really deep and soft sand across the bridge, so heed the warning posted. There's nothing past the bridge but a sandy dike, so no real reason to drive across the bridge itself. The real treat is the Japanese garden a ways before the bridge. That alone is worth the price of the Chappy Ferry.."
