"The “Belle of Maine” sounds charming does it? We thought so too. And after checking out their Instagram and Facebook pages we decided to book three nights. We arrived to the Belle of Maine on a Thursday, checked in, drove down to our room only to find all of the windows open. We found that odd but didn’t say anything. Upon entering there was a strong chemical smell in the room, like something had been stained (room 105). The windows now made sense since clearly they knew there was a smell and wanted to air it out. The furniture was outdated and the brown sheets made it look/feel dirty. After spending the remainder of the night in town and coming back to the same smell we went to the office and they were very accommodating and moved us to the room next door, (106) which was better smelling at least. Room 105 windows remained open the entire time we were there. However there were other aspects of our stay that were not pleasing. They had someone weed wacking upon arrival, which is great but they didn’t weed wack under the picnic tables, so we couldn’t use them and all of the shrubs were overgrown and not well kept. There was no “ocean view”, there is a marsh and houses, no view of the ocean. The hardware in the bathroom was not secured to the wall and moved all over while trying to turn on the shower. There were no irons or ironing boards in either room. Fences are missing pieces, the lattice on the cabins were broke, the entire place was all out of sorts. The room was not cleaned the entire time we stayed, garbage was not taken out, and you have to put your dirty towels outside by 9am in order to get new ones, which they leave outside, when they pick them up. And never changed the garbage the entire time. They have a decent pool and spa, but we did not use because we were told our 15 month old was not allowed to go in the pool. Which was disappointing since we booked this motel with our two kids in mind. The Murphy bed and queen bed were so uncomfortable and squeaked every time you moved. We honestly couldn’t wait to get back home. Needless to say we will not be returning to the “luxury” cottages. Way overpriced."

"The owners are super nice!! Clean rooms, minutes from tons of fun stuff to do and good food. A trolley stops there so there is no need to drive most places. Has play ground and basketball hoop for kids and a very clean pool and hot tub. Will be sure to stay there again next time I'm in Maine."

"My family and I have been coming to Belle of Maine for about 17 years and we've never had a bad experience. There are some things in the cottages that could be updated (the TV's) but with access to all the fun things on route 1 the Belle is in the prime spot for guests. Jim and his family and all of the employees there make us feel like at home and we always feel like a part of the family"

"We had a wonderful stay at the Belle of Maine, from May 7th to 10th 2016. Our cabin was not quite ready when we arrived. So the owners upgraded us to a larger cabin with a screened deck, at no extra cost. It was quiet and clean and we couldn't be happier with our stay here. Also the owners were very friendly and helpful! And so close to so many eateries and attractions. We will be back next year!"
