"Even though Nick works hard with very little help, I feel he has totally overextended himself in running this inn. We stayed in the Villages of Conway room. We arrived at 3:45pm which, according to our reservation confirmation, was within the appropriate times (3-11pm) to check in. When we got to the door and found that it was locked and the lights off, I saw a note that said check in time strictly starts at 4pm. It should then be changed on the confirmation that guests receive. Luckily Nick was just arriving when my husband called. Our room wasn’t ready until 4:30. The ear plugs by the side of the bed should have been a clue as to how noisy this room is. It faces Rt. 302. Need I say anymore? The walls are very thin. We could hear our neighbors as they arrived back from a night out. Luckily, they quickly settled in. The bed was very worn and sunken. According to the amenities for this room, there were supposed to be bathrobes - there were none, 2 TVs – there was only 1 (who needs 2 anyway), garden views – maybe out the side window (of course no mention of the Rt. 302 view), bottled water (none was provided), DVD player (M.I.A.), and the linen was certainly not luxury. Regarding the breakfast, my broccoli and cheese omelet was not cooked in the middle. Nick defended it as water from the broccoli. As a past breakfast waitress, I will tell you it was raw egg I saw! Nick did offer to cook it again but at that point I just wanted to leave. Just like the first day we arrived, Nick seemed very stressed out and over extended. I didn’t want to add to it. We suspected that he was cooking AND serving the breakfasts to the guests. This was confirmed when my husband came down to look for Nick to get some fresh towels. He found Nick cooking in the kitchen along with a pile of dirty dishes that looked like they were left over from the previous night’s dinner!! We really could not get out of there fast enough. Wait! We still had to shower. The shower that I was looking forward to had very little pressure (not good for someone who has very long thick hair) and just would not get hot even though the water to the hot tub and sink was hot (probably just a mixing valve problem). We both ended up taking a morning hot tub instead! That was the best feature of the room. Maybe Nick should turn the big old place into a spa if he could ever hire enough help. It is a beautiful old house in need of lots of repairs. We hope Nick can somehow work his way through the mess he got himself into."
"This place is fantastic. Second time staying here- we arrived super late at night and they were super accommodating. In the morning after breakfast ended (we missed it), we went to get coffee and the owner made some fresh AND cooked us up two fresh breakfast sandwiches. Love it here- so cozy and friendly."
"I stayed here in 2020 and loved it. The inn keeper’s well-mannered dog roamed the inn and that gave it a really homey feeling for me. The breakfast was phenomenal as was the hospitality and service. Booked again for 2023 and sad to see no doggos roaming the property this time. This Inn has an authentic, historic New England feel which is exactly what I was looking for. The rooms are beautiful. I only deducted stars because my confirmation email said check in would begin at 3pm. We arrived at 3:30 to find the lobby completely dark with on one around. The sign on the door said check in begins at 4. We drove down the street to get some food before coming back to check in. When we arrived the lobby was warmly lit and inviting. I rang the bell to check in and was greeted promptly. It’s a beautiful property."
"My wife and I booked my mother and father-in-law a one night stay getaway for their birthday. The inn placed them in a room different than what we booked them, that was also cheaper than the room we paid for. They said nothing to my in-laws, so unbeknownst to them they were in the wrong room until my wife and I looked at the pictures they sent to us. We called right away and the person who answered the phone didn't even remember who they checked in an hour ago (which is concerning for a B&B with ~15 rooms). After finally getting on the same page, and when they remembered our parents, they realized their error but had placed another couple in the room that we booked and paid for. They said they would correct the mistake and move our parents to the correct room (which, again, cost more than the one they were placed in), but after a few hours they told our parents that they tried to call the couple "a few times and they didn't answer" so our parents would have to take the room they were given because all other rooms are fully booked. Throughout this process, both to our parents and to us, they continued to make it sound like it was our problem and lamented the fact that they would "have to clean two rooms now." I understand it might be inconvenient, but getting the room you paid for is the base level service. Through 2 phone calls with management, neither my wife or I received an apology. Nick, the manager, assured me he apologized to our parents which isn't exactly clear yet. We're now booking our parents at another inn in the area after Bernerhof was gracious enough to refund us after the manager, Nick, threw his "new employee" under the bus a few times. We booked them at Bernerof Inn because it was an Inn that my wife and I stayed at in 2015 and after this experience, no one in our family will be back. This use to be a great spot, but I am thoroughly unimpressed with the new management and would caution anyone looking to book a room on what appears to be a busy evening."
