"My fishing partner Tom and I stayed at Lakewood Camps from 6/11-16/23. This being our first time visiting the camp and fishing the Rapid River, we were understandably nervous. From the boat ride in to the boat ride out, our visit exceeded our expectations. Our stay started effortlessly by calling the Camp from Andover, informing Emily of our ETA. John was waiting at the dock and assisted with baggage. On the 15 min. boat ride out we peppered John with questions about fishing the Rapid River. John was very enthusiastic and clearly enjoys working at LC. All the staff members were extremely polite, knowledgeable and worked efficiently to make sure we had the best stay possible. Mike, GM works tirelessly, 15+ hours a day to make sure things run smoothly. Emily greeted us and showed us to our cabin. She coordinated everything to making sure we had a shuttle to/from Lower Dam (on time) to which salad dressing we desired. Lisa added local color during our shuttles. Regarding the food, the choices, variety and presentation were fabulous. Kudos to Chefs Richard and Kevin. Charlie, having just graduated high school, scored a dream summer job. Charlie was very helpful to both fellow staff as well as guests. Regarding the fishing, it was tough. We did not hire a guide as recommended. High water the first 3 days was a challenge as we “walked n waded” the river. Even so, the salmon were plentiful and willing to take both dries and nymphs. Brook trout were scarcer, but I managed to eke out few nice ones including a 17 1/2” er, a personal best. It devoured a size 10 stimulator. One guest, fishing from a boat with a guide, showed us a picture of the 22-23” brookie she landed earlier in the day. Accommodations are nice and clean. The best thing was the completely new bedding, ensuring a restful nights sleep. The new owners have some ambitious plans to increase the camps offerings in order diversify as well as attending to repairs and maintenance. In a nutshell, we were not disappointed, quite the opposite."
"I just came back from Lakewoods camp, my 9th or 10th year. We could not be more pleased with the new ownership and Mike, the camp manager. They picked up quite a lot of work from the previous owners who were clearly not vested in the camp and it's customers. We were so happy to see the hard work, diligence, customer service and dedication to the history of and tradition of this fantastic fishing and hunting camp. The rustic charm remains while the new ownership is attempting to make it also somewhat more comfortable! The new beds were much appreciated. The food is always consistent and excellent even if my fly fishing abilities are not! Looking forward to next year and seeing the improvements they continue to make. Keep up the good work!"
"Immersed in rich sportsman heritage, there are few places that escape time and remain naturally unchanged. Lakewood Camps is one of them. In my younger years, I was once a employee for Lakewood Camps, and as a novice outdoorsman it was undoubtedly the best summer of my life. After changing ownership, I was hesitant on reaching back out to visit. I ended up reserving a camp this past week, and I can say I was immediately greeted again like family. Emily, John, and Mike are the most diligent and hard-working managers hospitality can afford. From the moment you step onto the camp docks or into your lakefront cabin, you can rest assured your stay is comfortable, memorable, and quintessential of a Maine sporting camp. Rich and Lisa are the lifeblood of the camp. 3 course Michelin star meals in pair with gourmet pastries are the cherry on top of the entire stay. You’ll never be hungry, but be starving for more after your stay is complete. Kimberly and her marketing team have the ideal talent for capturing the tranquility and sublime of what this historic outdoor camp has to offer. Their passion for showing sportsman like us what “could be”, will make every dream you have of this place turn into “reality” when you visit. Lakewood Camps has the most experienced licensed guides in Maine. Josh and Will live and breath fly fishing. Their passion is to give you the utmost success and most memorable adventure on the Rapid River, and their knowledge is worth every penny. Their lessons paid in dividends. And as for the new owners, who I haven’t had the pleasure to meet yet, I salute them for partnering together to conserve our values in the angling pursuit. As an angler, I thank you for your due diligence in keeping the Rapid river accessible instead of privatized, which is continually happening to other beloved Maine camps. I cannot speak higher of Lakewood Camps and the staff that keep the tradition alive. If it is on your bucket list to come in the future, don’t wait. But rest assured the fish and friends are waiting for you. Thanks for the amazing trip!"
"The location is breathtaking, with stunning views of Richardaon Lake and tranquil surroundings. The cabins are rustic and cozy, providing a comfortable retreat. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to assist and share fishing tips. Speaking of fishing, the opportunities here are abundant, catering to all skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned angler or a brand new beginner (like me), you'll have a blast reeling in some impressive catches. Lakewoods offers a much-needed escape from everyday life. I highly recommend a visit for an unforgettable experience."
