"A beautiful campground on Moosehead lake, remote and off-the-grid. Kid friendly, dog friendly, laid back. The perfect place to unplug. The simple life. Deep rooted history. Tip: come prepared! A spare tire, groceries, patience. The long LONG dirt road is always changing. Pot holes, ruts, washouts, but also Moose, deer, and other wildlife! The road to paradise is never paved."
"Though we raced down a crazy dirt road to make check-in, luckily our car could handle it!, It was all worth it to be secluded out on the lake and relax!. Though a helicopter did land in the campground while we were there! It was quiet and they have canoe rentals to explore the lake! Great time all around!"
"Amazing location and it is what it says it is, except when it isn't. We stayed for two consecutive summers and the kids made some friends and we planned on returning each year for our annual summer vacation. However, when booking this spring (months after we stayed) we learned our dog was not welcome back because he barked ... in the middle of the day, during non quiet hours, with tail wagging. Other guests who also had dogs there were shocked, as they saw no issues with him. He barks to say hello, and he doesn't bark constantly, but his bark is low. He's a hound mix, and despite the contract (terms & conditions I signed at booking) state there is no breed restriction, only a lease restriction; he was attended to at all times, and leashed at all times. I understand, and love the quiet, of Seboomook, but understand that there will be animal noises. I am heartbroken that we can't return and that other guests have offered to follow us to go elsewhere because of how the situation played out. I reviewed the terms and conditions I signed and there was NO violation of the contract. I contacted the owners and attempted to resolve the issue, but was told that the dog couldn't come back unless he had a bark collar. Our dog is a sweet, happy rescue who came from a really bad situation. A bark collar would be more than unkind. My recommendation to the owners was to not ban pets who made no violation of the contract OR change the policies to reflect that there are 24/7 quiet hours or a clause about barking dogs. My hope in sharing this is that someone else doesn't fall in love with Seboomook and then be told they can't return because there's a violation of a personal preference that is not part of a contract or a written and clearly stated policy. In response to the owners message below: Change your policies, then. Your policies should reflect 24/7 quiet hours. He was not noisy during quiet hours, which is why this is a problem."
"My mom used to go here when she was a kid. She says it was her home away from home. I finally got to experience it, too. One of my favorite memories was here. Loved it!"
"My wife and I have been camping here every fall since 2020. The first year we stayed in one of the "plywood tents" They are not luxurious but they are more then adequate for the tired hunter looking for a warm place to sleep. Last year we went back with our camper and loved our site on the shore, the sunrises over the lake are amazing! This year we added a summer trip and went up with our son and some friends and had an amazingly relaxing time, spending most of the time in the water at our campsite with a perfect sandy beach. The 30 mile dirt road up can be hazerdous so be sure to bring a spare tire or two but the destination is very worth it. We plan to continue making the trip up twice a year!!"
