"Easy and scenic walk. I always enjoy trails that are a loop! There is a bathroom at the beginning/end of the trail. I went in January and the bathroom was still open."
"Mackworth Island is a nice place to hike and there is very limited parking, so you may not be able to park during warmer months. The trail circles the island and you can go down to the shore. There's a pet cemetery and in the woods are dozens of fairy houses visitors have helped create. There are several benches along the trail if you need a spot to rest. Nice views of the water abound, and I've noticed people like to bring their dogs here for a walk. There is a vault toilet available. The trail can be muddy in spots depending on the season, but that's true all over Maine! I gave 4 stars because of the parking situation. Not only are there few spots, but the lot is very tight. Otherwise, it is a superb spot."
"Spent an hour or so here, but very lucky to have gotten a parking spot! $4 per adult, $1 kid entrance fee. Composting toilet. Easy walking path. Nice views of the water. Fairy homes are cute!"
"Lovely trail around the perimeter of the island, gorgeous pine forests next to the coast, and a well-maintained path. Pet cemetery is a beautiful tribute to visit along the way too."
"Small, but charming and so easy to access from Portland. Even with an injured foot, I had no problem navigating the stairs or beach. We saw a handful of other people sitting on the large driftwood and enjoying the view. A tranquil spot that was fun for bird-watching."
