Reviews
"This was an unplanned stop for us, but turned out to be a fantastic experience. The building is being renovated but the tour and presentations by Matt were thoughtful and very, very interesting. I would highly recommend especially if you are interested in American history and the constitution."
"Think you know the First Amendment? Maybe it's time for a refresher! We went to the museum to see the current exhibition "I Am Woman: Maine Activists" - paintings by Robert Shetterly from his "Americans Who Tell the Truth" series - and ended up doing a free tour, which was informative, entertaining and fun! The exhibitions are thought provoking and really well done. They are in the midst of restoring the historic Gannett House and grounds, so the First Amendment Museum will just keep getting better and better. Highly recommend a visit this to this gem of a museum in Augusta, Maine."
"Good concept, but it's not quite there yet. Felt very amateur. I was really excited about this museum as I've studied a lot of first amendment stuff. Also, building is hot, especially upstairs and kinda grungy. Tour guide kept getting bugged about some important 2 pm meeting while giving the tour. They also don't follow their own schedule. We arrived 10 minutes before the hour and he had already gone through three rooms."
"What an interesting little museum! We enjoyed the tour and getting time to wander around on our own after it. Highly recommend going with someone who you can talk through the exhibits with, but it’d be fun on your own, too. We were the first to join our tour, but Max seamlessly included two new groups of arrivals even after he’d started our tour. I would definitely return; I’m sure there are things I didn’t get to and there are some exciting upcoming exhibits!"
"It was a nice place to visit, the guided tour was very good and kind. It took around 1 1/2 hours."
