Reviews of Snow Pond Center for the Arts
"WARNING to any would be wedding or event planners: the wedding director at this venue is incredibly toxic and confrontational. Upon arriving at my brother's wedding with about an hour to spare, we found only a sign to meet us at check-in, advising to call and someone will be with us. 10 minutes later an employee walks over, and dismissively advises that they have a small staff, so they don't *snap snap* around here -- he literally snapped his fingers at me. I advised we still needed to prepare for this wedding, so we need to *snap snap* -- snapping my fingers. Presumably the employee took offense to this, because when we called for better directions to our cabin, the director instead said we would "not be checking in", and to return to the front. With only 30 minutes now to the ceremony, she advises I spoke rudely to her employee and we are not permitted to stay. The 2nd thing out of her mouth is that she will "call the police". To a wedding. She starts recording us with her phone from a golf cart. When my wife pleads with her to allow us to attend the wedding [of my brother], she demands an apology for admittance to the wedding. When I capitulate, she advises it's not a "real apology" and speeds away to find the BRIDE AND GROOM to consult them about our banishment She returns minutes later to advise she will will admit us to the ceremony [of course], but then we'll need to discuss the matter further. She tells my wife get ready for the wedding inside of our car. After a beautiful ceremony, we ask this director aside to speak with us, as well as the parents of the groom. She advises at that time that she will need to push this conversation back another hour and that we should just attend the wedding until then. I would later learn the Best Man intercepted her earlier and told her not to prevent us from attending, and that he had also been banned from rehearsals only the night before. This same director then proceeds to knowingly and personally serve us alcohol over the course of the next three hours, before finally obliging us to step aside AGAIN at this wedding, to determine whether or not she will permit us to stay in the room we have paid for. She instead demands two apologies for the tone with which she and her employee had been spoken to, so that we may remain at the wedding. When she receiver her coerced apology [a second time], she remains unsatisfied and says we will need to leave immediately. She then began lunging at the drink in my hand and clutching at myself and my wife while attempting to shove us THROUGH THE DANCE FLOOR to usher us from this wedding. She then threatened to call the police again when family members came to say goodbye to us outside. I gave a second star because there were many redeeming qualities about the venue and of course other employees that made the wedding a success, but this one person is a tremendous caveat for an event of any significance. She also knowingly served us alcohol for hours and then insisted we leave suddenly, knowing we had a reservation to stay the night. She made no effort to ascertain if we had a sober driver while threatening to call police again hours after the initial "incident". She was the most contemptuous and petulant person I have ever encountered in any wedding or hospitalities setting -- and I have worked both professionally. I left out: - Having to request our sheets/blankets/pillows...which we paid for separately - Having to ask to learn that rooms do not lock; locks must be requested. - They ran out of food items at the dinner service before all guests had been served (yikes). - You will recall we were calling to get better guidance to our cabin on the property...and that was with a map in hand."
"Attended the closing concert of the New England Music Camp. It was a wonderful concert"
"I've been going here for BYSO camp for each of 6 years now... 1 week in JRO, 2 weeks in REP, and 6 weeks in BYS. This year was my last since I'm graduating and I'm sad to go. It's a very lovely place even for someone as unsociable as me, and the NEMC staff is very kind and worries about the trouble the kids get up to all the time! I'd rate five stars if it weren't for all the complaints I heard this year. The complaints about the food aren't really understandable since it's just a much better version of school lunch. The complaints that did affect my opinion were those about the counselors. I've heard that they got up to some nasty stuff this year, but rumors are rumors. I did, however, bear witness to how a counselor discouraged a sick camper's request for a COVID test, display a lot of passive-aggressiveness, and force an innocent trio of campers to spend their rest hour scrubbing away at drawings they didn't make. I know it's a bit unfair to lower the rating based just on this, but I will still be doing it. Otherwise, I'll miss you, NEMC! I hope things run just as well, maybe even better, in the coming years!"
"Beautiful venue on the lake. The stage is awesome."
"Beautiful venue. Professional staff. Easy in and out. Parking was a breeze. Not a bad seat in the house. It was a very rainy night and so happy to have the show go off without a hitch. Thank you for hosting Michael Franti."
