Reviews of The Boston Area Lactation Connection
"Another new mom recommended Kira and I’m am infinitely grateful that I went to see her. My four week old was having some feeding challenges and Kira was able to assess the root issues and help create a plan to address them. She was far more competent and attuned to my baby’s needs than the pediatrician. She is personable, responsive and really skilled in her work. I cannot recommend her enough!!"
"I had my first prenatal consult recently with Kira, and wow am I thankful I found her. I am currently mid 2nd trimester, and have been dealing with God awful breast pain - both general whole breast and areolar/nipple. (You know- that breast pain they say typically gets a bit better after first trimester, except mine feels like I’m being stabbed then electrocuted in each breast a thousand times!). They hurt so bad to the point where I considered not even breastfeeding my baby at all anymore, which is an ultimate goal I have/very important to me. But how could I when my pain is already unbearable to point of dysfunction/crying/inability to get to work on time? My own OB and breast specialists truly had no helpful answer as to what it could be or how to manage it besides Tylenol, ice, avoid caffeine, just deal with it- (all of which I already had been doing and were already not helpful. ) The lactation specialist at my OB office refuses to see me until after 30 weeks, but I got tired of suffering this whole time and praying the pain would just be a short burst when it onsets. Felt like my pain and concerns were not being heard or taken seriously and was dismissed- esp by my own OB office. I truly feel grateful for Kira, I feel like I got an exact answer to my pain causes, better ways to manage it, and follow-up recommendations to bring to my breast specialist. I actually cried when Kira was done helping me, because it made so much more sense , and I felt more heard! Sometimes just having more specific answers over general/maybe answer is much better. Also for the first time this pregnancy I actually have hope that breastfeeding for me, especially pain free breastfeeding , is possible! Thank you Kira! I can’t wait to see her postpartum."
"I can’t say enough wonderful things about Kira! Our son arrived early and we lined up a visit with Kira shortly after we were discharged home. As an early arrival with a tongue tie, our little guy had some feeding challenges. Kira couldn’t have been more knowledgeable, thorough, or helpful. She answered all of our questions (and we had so many) and provided incredibly helpful guidance, support and advice. She left us with a step-by-step plan and was always available for follow up questions. Kira’s demeanor was so calming for us as new parents and for our sweet little guy. Since our initial consultation, Kira has been one of our most trusted advisors and resources, helping us with every feeding hiccup along the way (including two bouts of bottle refusal, which she helped us resolve on the first try both times - a true miracle for stressed parents!). Kira sets the highest of bars for care and subject matter expertise. She has been a blessing for our family and we can’t recommend her highly enough."
"I can't recommend Kira enough. She is one of the very few IBCLCs that can diagnose oral ties, she can give pumping guidance and provide accurate flange sizing. Kira is an experienced herbalist and can help you find the right topical ointments, supplements, etc to make your lactation journey a success. Kira has an extensive network of high caliber professionals she can recommend depending on your needs: chiropractors, pediatric dentists, ENT, occupational therapists, you name it. Kira will work alongside all of these professionals to help navigate your breastfeeding journey. On top of that, Kira is thoughtful, approachable, witty, kind, respectful, and is a very clear and effective communicator. Kira is also willing to go fight with your insurance on your behalf to get you the reimbursement for lactation services. Some context on my experience: I've had few painful weeks of nursing my son since his birth and couldn't figure out what the issue was. I've had a LC come twice during that time and just suggested I gave it some more time since my son has been gaining weight well. Since pain wasn't getting better, one of my midwives recommended Kira. I got very lucky to get an appointment with her immediately!! When Kira arrived, she performed an extensive oral exam for my son, unlike the other LC that came in earlier. Kira diagnosed oral ties, and referred us to the few pediatric dentists to release the ties. Kira suggested that in our case release is the route we should go and explained all the whys behind it. In many cases release alone is sufficient but that wasn't the case with us. Kira was monitoring us throughout and recommended a trusted chiropractor for bodywork to help with tension. Kira also helped set us up with bottle feeding and pumping while I took time to heal. Due to distance, we went with a different chiro that was closer to us and the pain I've been experiencing got worse. When we went back to the chiro Kira recommended, we noticed immediate progress and pain subsided. This is just to say that Kira works with amazing professionals. If you can help it, please follow her directions!! Bodywork from chiro was helpful, but didn't get us to a pain-free nursing I desired, so then Kira suggested I recorded few nursing sessions. From the recordings she noticed oral motor function issues and referred us to an occupational therapist. We worked with the occupational therapist for some weeks and I can finally celebrate a pain free latch! I should mention that all of these virtual consults that Kira provided as well as all of the online support through her portal were totally free and Kira made herself available to me for consults for months and months. We've been working on pain-free nursing for 4 months and finally we have achieved a long-awaited victory! My story might not be the same as yours, but what I'd like for you to take from this is with Kira you are in great hands! No matter the difficulty, Kira will support you. And she will do so with kindness and encouragement. She will attentively listen to you. And (with time) you will achieve your goals whether those are related to your child's weight, pumping or nursing. Kira is such a multifaceted professional and there's no one else you'd need as part of your team."
"Kira helped change my entire breastfeeding journey. I was having such a difficult time breastfeeding and had seen two other lactation consultants and my pediatrician but was not feeling heard. It was Kira who really listened to me and diagnosed by son's tongue and lip tie, then subsequently the dentist that released them and the chiropractor that did his body work. He is a million times better and I actually enjoy breastfeeding now. Kira has been available to me for the past several months for other challenges that we've come across and I can't say enough for how respectful, calm, and knowledgeable she is. I will never use another IBCLC and I recommend her to all of my friends."
