Reviews of Swiss Institute
"Nice modern art and film space with relaxing rooftop area, all for free! Rare sociopolitical zines and postcards available for purchase."
"Didn't plan to visit but it was free admission so why not. Came on a Saturday afternoon and it was not crowded at all. There were newspapers pasted on the walls and the paintwork in the stairwell was intentionally not great either - ART!. Within the gallery, there was also a library with lots of nice art books. The rooftop was accessible but it was really hot. Down in the basement, it's the kind of immersive art with projectors and speakers."
"I had a great time , the staff were very friendly welcoming and awesome. The artwork was very creative , especially the story telling through projector on the last floor I was amazing."
"I caught a charming exhibit here on a rainy day..."
"3 floors of art and a roof deck looking out on the East Village - the Swiss Institute offers Free Admission at its new home on St. Marks. The name suggests otherwise, but artists represented here come from around the globe - apparently the unifying theme among shows is that the curators foster international dialogue. SI has that in common with the neighborhood it's now in. After a tour of the galleries inside, head out into the East Village for a global sampling - Veselka (Ukrainian), Maharlika (Filipino), Xi'an (Chinese), Via Della Pace (Italian), and Mamoun's (Middle Eastern) are all within a block. In addition to the gallery space...At the entrance is a help desk with maps and exhibit pamphlets and the Printed Matter / St. Mark's shop selling artists' books and related goods. On the second floor is SI's Library and Reading Room, with an interactive visitor survey."
