"My grandson has been living at Latham centers since January 2019. It was with a heavy heart and bittersweet emotions that my daughter and son-in-law dropped him off. They knew it would be good for Jake but they worried that he would be home sick and beg to come home, which would break their hearts. Lots and lots of people prayed about it. But Latham centers has turned out to be an answer to that prayer, a miracle in our lives and a miracle in Jake's life, which is the most important thing. Jake is 15 years old. He has thrived at Latham and tells me all the time what an "awesome place it is" (to use his own words.) He loves it there. Another of the great things about Latham is that Jake is able to call us during his free time, and we can call him. That makes such a big difference! We can hear the peace and happiness in his voice and his excitement when he tells us what he's been doing. There are many, many nice things about Latham. They take very good care of the residents, and they have lots of outings and things for them to do outside of school. Jake gets lots of exercise and has maintained a normal weight. He loves exercise, because he knows he'll get to eat a little more than if he didn't exercise, and that suits him just fine. The staff that I have met so far is caring and very pleasant. My daughter and I went up to visit Jake at the end of January, and we were both thrilled at seeing how well he had adjusted in just a few short weeks. My daughter and her husband went up a few weeks ago, and they were also very happy to see all the things Jake has talked about and how basically content he is. He still has an occasional meltdown, but the staff keeps his mother and dad informed of everything that goes on, and he is able to pull himself out of these episodes much more easily than he did when he was at home. He tells his mom and dad when he has a rough day and then reassures them that he pulled himself through with the help of this wonderful staff. I can't wait for my next visit with Jake. In the meantime, though, I am so very relieved and feel so blessed the Jake is thriving and loving life at Latham!"
"I have worked at Latham for over 9 years. If you are a patient, dedicated, professional this is an amazing place to work. These kids need caring individuals to guide them and educate them. This is the most rewarding career I have ever had, and I have worked for a number of organization. This is a place where you can grow and learn."
