"It was my first visit here and not the best timing after a big storm the day before. The big parking lot was closed due to heavy equipment cleaning up sand and debris swept onshore by heavy winds. We had a short walk along the waterfront and enjoyed seeing a few birds fighting wind and waves. We'll have to return when conditions are more conducive to enjoying this lovely spot. Hopefully no more damaging storms this winter!"
"Ellis Park, Short Sands Beach, Ocean Ave, York Beach, Maine used to feel like a relatively welcoming spot. In fact, Ellis Park was donated in 1887 to be forever used and occupied by the public. My family has visited York, Maine since the 1800’s. However, in my opinion, over the last few years, there has been a drastic change, for the worse, in this once somewhat tourist friendly town. By far, the most contentious issue is not dogs on the beach, or ever major increases in beach parking fees, it’s York, Maine’s recently added take in take out trash policy. Ellis Park Short Sands beach removed its trash receptacles a few years ago. Sadly, the amount of trash now left behind on beach, sidewalks and bathrooms is a dismal reflection of the attitudes of the tourists (who spend money in Short Sands) and more than a few angry York residents who want to discourage out of owner’s visits. Take in take out policies work well in many locations, but not at Ellis Park Short Sands Beach park area. Unless intent is to drive tourists away from community, which it could be."
"The equipment onsite was a little dated, but not terribly so. I presume most of the degradation is from sea water and long term exposure to winds and sun, so I don't want to judge too harshly! Nice location with easy parking options, and if the little ones get sick of the playground, just walk a few feet over to the beach for a change in scenery. The playground is a sand-base cover, and we saw some rough stones here and there, so I'd personally recommend keeping shoes on little ones just to be safe."
"Great place and very clean bathrooms, parking lot and beach. A great beach to watch the sunrise some of the best sunrises I've ever seen!"
"Ellis Short Sands Park is a small park in York Beach Maine. It has a small beach area and a walkway along the beach and around the park area. It is an easy and pleasant walk with nice ocean views. It has a number of benches which makes it nice for senior citizens and children. There are some rocky areas on the side of the beach for those interested in beach combing. Some gardens, a playground for kids and lots of space for picnics. A two minute walk to downtown shops."
