About Us

Urban Improv is an institution located at 670 Centre Street in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. As a proud partner organization of Boston Public Schools, Urban Improv offers in-school theater-based Social-Emotional Learning education at no cost to students through their Urban Improv School Residencies program.
Since its establishment in 1992, Urban Improv has developed a curriculum of interactive scenes and songs that address a variety of important themes such as community, friendship, fairness, self-esteem, and diversity. The curriculum is organized into three 9-week units per school year, tailored to different grade levels, and covers topics like racism, peer pressure, healthy relationships, and more.

The program is funded in part by Boston Public Schools Arts Expansion, which aims to provide access, equity, and quality arts learning for BPS students.
Through the support of organizations like the Barr Foundation, The Boston Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts, Urban Improv is able to continue providing valuable arts education to students in the Boston area.
