"The ABSOLUTE worst “gym” on the east side of the Mississippi. Two benches, no squat racks, and guys who think their life is a movie and hog the equipment. Give me a break. The literal equivalent of someone opening a gym in their garage and calling it a YMCA gym. That’s how small it is. Embarrassing. Once again, the ABSOLUTE WORST gym in New England."
"I had the unfortunate experience of being a member at this particular YMCA, and I feel compelled to share my rather disappointing experience, especially when it comes to their gym facilities. First and foremost, let's talk about their so-called "renovations." These are nothing more than thinly veiled attempts to squeeze extra money out of their members. The gym equipment remains unchanged, unimproved, and outdated. It's as if they move things around just to create an illusion of improvement. It's a classic bait-and-switch tactic. Furthermore, the gym itself is cramped and undersized. During peak hours, you'd be lucky to find a spot to work out without bumping into someone or feeling like you're in the middle of a sardine can. The lack of space and overcrowding make for a far from enjoyable gym experience. But the cherry on top is the group of high school freshmen who frequent the gym. They congregate around the bench press, strutting their stuff and attempting to show off their nonexistent strength. It's clear they're there to boost their egos, not to genuinely work out. It's beyond annoying and frustrating to deal with their antics. And then, there's the creepy individual who seems to have taken up residence in the gym. This man looks disheveled, smells unpleasant, and engages in the oddest exercises. What's even more concerning is the way he stares at everyone, making gym-goers extremely uncomfortable. I've heard stories of him exhibiting the same behavior at other local gyms, raising concerns that this is more than just a gym etiquette issue and might warrant the attention of local authorities. In summary, my experience at this YMCA, especially concerning the gym, has been nothing short of exasperating. I'd advise anyone considering a membership to think twice and explore other options that prioritize their members' actual fitness needs and comfort over profit."
"Beautiful indoor pool with people who know how to share lanes and lifeguards who care about the members."
"What a gem! Lots of programs. The staff is so kind. The pool is lovely. The whole place is very clean. I'm going to add some photos so others can see how cool this facility is."
"For a town like Barrington, I expected more. The workout facilities are stuffed into the cellar like an afterthought. There’s hardly any natural light there. You feel like you are on top of each other When you are using the equipment. One visit to the Newport YMCA and you will see all you are missing. From clean, wide open workout spaces with beautiful views to hot/dry saunas, etc."
