"This school offers more than just lessons in Kung Fu and Lion Dance; it offers life lessons, life long friendships, learned commitment and discipline, passion and skills to be utilized in your life. The people here make learning fun and they care for the school and each other. This school is not a business, it’s a non-profit taught by a Master SiFu and his disciples that share their passion of spreading history and culture with their students and community. My kids have been coming here for 4 years and have been positively influenced by all that teach here."
"DO NOT JOIN THIS SCHOOL! The school atmosphere has changed from being a place of family and fun to a sycophantic cult where it's expected that you must dedicate all your available weekend time there by sacrificing all other important life events, plans, and pursuits, otherwise the Sifu will be deeply disappointed in you for not being a loyal "for lifer". The current culture gatekeeps progression on your kung fu journey as things move very, very slowly where you will be stuck on basic forms for years and years without any meaningful growth. Nobody usually knows what's going on because communication between top leadership and the team is embarrassingly poor. The Sifu overly relies on his 2nd-in-command to do nearly everything from running weekly practices to negotiating with clients as the Sifu himself usually sits back and watches the team. Members providing honest feedback and initiative are not particularly welcomed because saying and doing something that goes against the Sifu's perspective and desire often results in negligent change, radio silence, or listening to a long lecture on his view that invalidates our opinion. There’s an “inner circle” within the school that’s completely comprised of the performance team, where you won’t be given care or attention by the Sifu if you’re just a regular student not on that team."
"Great martial arts school for kids, teens, and adults! They also offer traditional lion dance!"
"I am writing to relate my experiences with Yee’s Southern Lions Kung fu and lion dancing school. My son started classes when he was 12 and he is now 16. I am very happy with the progress he has made during his time in the school. He has developed confidence, independence, and has a strong motivation to make healthy choices around food and exercise. His Kung fu skills are improving at a steady rate. I feel that he is appropriately supported by the Sifu and he has benefitted from his leadership in the school. The atmosphere is one of friendship and fun, with community meals after performances and occasional community holiday parties. Parents are always welcome. The students feel that they are helping to keep an important cultural expression alive and that they have a responsibility to uphold traditions around lion dancing as well as to succeed in the physical and musical aspects of this performance activity. They are proud of their work, and rightfully so. I would recommend this school to anyone- for the Kung fu, the lion dancing, and for the fun and friendship that can be found there."
"I am a former student or I shouldn’t say former because you never stop being a student of the philosophy I practiced so much or I try to with on my own but I can’t wait to come back to class soon and I’m bringing my friend who has lymph noma cancer diagnosis and I’m going to support her so she can learn kung fu and get stronger if that is OK if you think that is OK to bring her in while she goes through treatment I think it’ll be great to make her stronger I’ll see you Tuesday"
