"As a ymca member I was very disappointed with the way this facility treated me and my biracial toddler. My son and I were using the completely empty field adjacent to this YMCA for play and learning to walk. However the staff, instead of asking us to leave, called the cops on us, despite no signage or any other indication that Dues Paying families were not welcome. Given that, and the fact other families in the area occasionally use the play equipment, it seems likely to me my son's appearance was a factor in them calling the police on us. If you are a mixed family, or just don't want to deal with nasty people, go elsewhere. Edit: The "business owner" is implying that we gave them difficulties about leaving the premises which is entirely false. In fact, her own employee told us we could stay, and that in the future we COULD use the property after business hours. Despite this, we left the premises immediately because I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable by my or my son's presence. I understand that it's private property, which is fine, but bear in mind my front yard and driveway are also private property, and should no longer be used for overflow parking from the Y (Next door). It was completely unnecessary to have Londonderry PD visit our home to talk to us."
"DANGEROUS a small fence 5 feet away from highway 30 plus kids just having fun. No concrete pillars for when someone inevitably run off the road going 50mph. Recipe for disaster"
"Loved it! I’m 16, and I’ve been going to camp here every year since I was 12!! I’ve made so many great friends, and found my connection to nature. Can’t wait to be back. Now, there are some flaws however, as with any other summer camp. Some of the campers, mainly the older ones can be real jerks! Often times, the younger kids take on this negative behavior. There is a reason behind it though. I’m not advocating for anyone to break the rules and get in trouble, in fact that’s the last thing I want, but the staff can be a little overly strict. They have dumb rules for what seems to be no apparent reason. Back in my first year there, they didn’t allow campers to exchange information. Get each others cell numbers, emails, etc. They don’t seem to care about this now, but they also seem to not do much about some problems that arise. Like, if a kid swears for example, the counselors will just say ‘use appropriate language’, but don’t get any more strict than that normally. Even if it’s not bothering anyone else, or you’re just saying it to yourself, they still do this. I understand why, rules are rules, everything has to be appropriate, but if a kid is by him/herself, just leave it alone, seriously. Great camp though, and good experience. My favorite place in the summer! Thank you for the memories!"
"I'm surprised reviewers are saying staff are rude. Maybe there is new staff there, but over the past decade that we've been sending my daughter to classes and camps they have always been great -- both the staff and the programs. We haven't done either one in this past year, so maybe things changed. If so, that's really too bad! The summer camp is WAAAAAY better than the Manchester Y's camp."
"The Londonderry YMCA is a great resource to our community. Our family has enjoyed classes (cooking and sports). We have also utilized summer camp and Teen Trip, both of which have been fun and well organized. Gabby(the director) is wonderful too."
