"We had purchased a dining set as well as a tv from Rent A Center in Revere, Ma. We opted not to have their LDW which is additional insurance on the product. I worked at the time for the same company that does the financing for rent to own. We made a down payment and was required to set up auto payments. We finished paying off the table with never a missed payment. We wanted to see how many were left on the tv. We opened our auto receipts sent to email. We noticed that we were being charged for the LDW insurance. The entire time on the table set and the tv. We fished out our contract just in case we had made some type of mistake. We did not. We did not sign the separate part of the agreement where it clearly states to sign if we would like to have this coverage. We called the store to inform them and they denied knowing about it. So we called corporate and they stated they would have the store manager call. They did call, for a payment, and we would bring up the issue to which their response was always, they would have the manager call us back. We did this song and dance for about a month and a half including with corporate. Finally, the manager calls to inform us that we were past due. We told them what they owed us and it could be given in cash or put towards the payments, which is realistic. The manager Christian, Instead of letting us speak, he was trying to talk over us and talk circles around us about how it doesn't matter and we signed a contract. Yes, but our signature was required to sign up for the additional insurance, authorizing them to debit that additional amount. Again, he had no answer, no solution, just droned on and on. He said he would call the next day with a solution. He called to day and said he was going to schedule a pick up of the merchandise which we refused. He said he had tried to give us a solution the night before. He most certainly did not. He said, and I kid you not, "it doesn't matter if you signed it we will do whatever we want." Apparently he's diluted. So we filed a civil complaint as well as with the BBB and Attorney Generals' office. With the contract, receipts, and unauthorized debit statements. I advise you not to purchase from at least this location and read reviews before applying at others. If you already have, I suggest you check your receipts and contract. Thank me later."
"I have used this rent a center location on and off since 2010. Most times I would rent items I only needed for a short time, then return it. However two items a TV and bedroom set I actually did rent to own and had a great experience but sadly the manager who worked there in the past is no longer there I believe his name was Matt awesome customer service. Even if I was a day or two late I never got harrassed maybe one call I'd explain when I could pay or why I was late then pay my bill. This was not often but unfortunately once in awhile I paid less than a week late. Due to my great experience in the past this Xmas I was short on cash and decided to rent a Nintendo Switch for my children's gift. This has been a nightmare the new manager a woman named Michelle has no customer service skills is rude and should not be in charge. I would have kept and paid off the Nintendo Switch but decided to return it and just go to the store to buy a new one. This woman had workers calling me from the morning of my due date which was the 15th and 30th of each month 10-15× from the time the store opened I work from 730am-330pm and typically swing by the store on my way home to pay. This is ridiculous non stop calls all day whe Im working on the due date!!!! Not even 1 hour late!! Then I made a payment online the money was taken from my account someone came to my home on a Friday saying I was 6 days past due.... excuse me no. I went to my bank Sat but unfortunately the person I needed to speak with is only there Mon-Fri...but Sat night she sent the same worker to my home to yet again tell me I am now 7days late again I made an online payment that they somehow lost. The worker was extremely nice and apologized, he told me there are people who are 56 days late and did not understand why she was sending him out 2 days in a row for a payment that was paid online and for whatever reason wasn't showing up in their system but even still 7days late not 56!!!! I called the store and told her I wanted my money refunded and would be returning the Nintendo (because I can buy a new one much cheaper) she said she very rudely I will send my driver back now so he could take the item I said no I want my $ refunded and proof I returned the Nintendo so I will bring it in Monday after work she said really rude again yelling what time, I replied 4PM, and told her I used that location multiple times to purchase and rent and have never been harrassed like this. She said no you haven't rented here before! Really lady thats bs I rented a laptop, washer and dryer a fridge, tv and couch, then rented to own a bedroom set and tv all before she was in that store now that she's there I will NEVER EVER RENT TO OWN ANYTHING FROM THERE. Please beaware this is my experience with MICHELLE THE MANAGER."
