Reviews of Stratton Mountain Resort
"Had an absurd ski lesson experience. My wife is a beginner skier. I decided to check on her 45 minutes before the end of her lesson. I find her alone on the mountain 45 minutes before the end of her lesson. After the instructor left her; she fell and was scared. People regularly die while skiing all. Unacceptable. The instructor offered very little technical guidance or support. Being that this was a 2 person class, you would think it's a great opportunity to get more personal instruction right? Wrong. When my wife asked for technical advice on how to loosen up and turn, she was told "It will get better as you ski". He did not offer any technical drills or movement advice. She had to rely on instruction from a previous lesson to stay safe because he wasn’t helping or directing. Then, he accidentally took them on blue slope yodeler, which happened to have moguls that day. At that point, my wife took her skis off and walked to the bottom due to being put in unsafe conditions. He was supervising them, not instructing them. “Sink or swim” is a totally unacceptable way to run a beginner ski lesson. Taking them on many runs, instead of working technical skills into the mix, isn’t the best approach. Her family takes her on runs. That’s not why we signed up. We signed up for “instruction”, to which she received very little. We live in NY. There are plenty of other slopes we can ski down. Because my wife was exhausted from all the runs, she finally started asking for more breaks. At some point 45 minutes before the end of class, he asked her “are you done for the day”. Not wanting to be burden and feeling pushed away, she reluctantly agreed and asked for help getting to the bottom. He pointed “go that way” and skied away. She had to stop other instructors for directions as she still in the middle between mid mountain and the beginner area. I talked to him, and he didn’t have any explanation for his actions except a smart comment when I asked for a refund. My family owns a nearby property here, but we'll find other places to ski."
"Beginner friendly mountain, we got lucky with snow on our 2nd day. The gondola got a bit busy on the 2nd day but otherwise there was almost no wait for runs. The village isnt too big but we stayed at an airbnb."
"While I didn't stay at the resort, I attended a beginner ski group lesson. Unfortunately, the instructor struggled to bring everyone to the same skill level before introducing new concepts, leaving some of us feeling excluded and demotivated. The teaching approach seemed overly harsh, emphasizing failure rather than encouraging strengths. Additionally, not everyone received an equal amount of 1:1 attention, with apparent favoritism. On a side note, our ski rental experience lacked proper guidance, as we weren't provided with snow poles and faced challenges obtaining media tickets."
"During the Thanksgiving weekend, I visited this place for the first time with my family, and it turned out to be a great weekend getaway. I wasn't sure if it's too early to enjoy skiing or not but it was good enough to enjoy skiing. The view from the mountaintop was really amazing, and the pretty scenery made our visit feel magical. I was fascinated by how beautiful the peak was, and it became the best part of our trip. I'm already looking forward to returning to this wonderful place. The experience exceeded my expectations. If you're looking for a perfect winter getaway, I highly recommend considering this location."
"We have been to many events at Stratton and we have never been disappointed! Today was harvest fest. Pouring rain and gross out. Everything was moved inside and let me say kudos to whomever coordinated it all!! It was absolutely awesome! We had a blast!"
