Reviews of Landmark College
"The only thing that I can say positive about Landmark is the friends whom I have met. As I read the other reviews it seems like it's gotten worse. It's in the middle of nowhere and most of the professors were terrible. I was paying $43,000 when I was there 2002-6. You're better off going to the job corp than Landmark College."
"After my experience of being bullied and harassed I wasn’t impressed. The RDs ; Counseling; Health Services; however managed my situation the best they could so I have nothing but respect for them. I’d give them 5 stars, but the college itself is a 1 especially for the tuition price. Leaving was the best thing I did for my Mental Health moving forward."
"Looked pretty extensively @ Landmark (visited/toured the campus multiple times and had an admissions office interview), but didn't outright accept my acceptance to the college in the end, although I ❤️ the Putney area. Was MUCH more interested in both Bennington & Marlboro (both of which were colleges I did accept my acceptances to), when it came to my Southern Vermont college choices which were more of an "overall fit" for me. Landmark does have a nice campus in a BEAUTIFUL setting though. My parent's vacation home was about a 25-minute drive away from the campus in South Newfane. I also GREATLY admired Landmark's commitment to teaching students who learned differently, and being numerically Dyslexic, I instinctively understood how Landmark was academically structured and that it was geared towards students who had similar learning disabilities to mine, but Hampshire College (a 90-minute drive away down in Amherst, MA) was ultimately where I ended up attending college. Both because it was the best "complete fit" for me academically/socially back when I was entering college, and because of the collective academic resources of the Five-College Consortium, which Landmark didn't have the strength of. It was ultimately the reason I didn't choose Bennington, Marlboro or Goddard over Hampshire either. And while Hampshire didn't espouse the same commitment to teaching students who learned differently that Landmark does, it does offer extensive academic support resources both on it's own campus, as well as throughout the resources of the other four campuses in the Five-College Consortium for students who are differently abled learners. HOWEVER, Landmark's library materials and resources on Learning Disabilities and other related-conditions to LD's is UNPARALLELED. I did find that impressive. In fact, back when I was first diagnosed numerically Dyslexic in the late 70's/early 80's, my parents (who were NYC academics that taught in the CUNY system at Brooklyn College) did a lot of their research at Landmark to help educate both themselves and our family about my Dyslexia."
"This college caters to students who have ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism Spectrum Disorders and other learning disabilities. I might add that it’s for high functioning students with these issues. The instructors are aware of your student’s needs and a counselor meets weekly with new students. Instructors also will give the student feedback on how they are doing in class so far and what work they need to get caught up on or should seek further assistance. There are on campus instructors who will tutor free of charge. Quiet rooms for studies are available at the Library along with therapy dogs to help with anxiety. Each housing unit has a Residential Dean and advisor. There are counselors on staff for whenever a student needs to talk. Classes are no more than 14:1. Most times it’s 10:1, even as little as 5:1. Most important, this College honors IEP’s and 504’s. If a student takes medication, this is also coordinated. During breaks there are options to study abroad. Trips are arranged by the school to Germany, Scotland, Africa, Japan among others. All in all it’s a school that would be a great school for a student who struggles in a regular, full college experience. Call and tour the school. Overall great impression of the school. Graduates have returned to work there. Speaks a lot to their reputation."
"This is actually a very very good school who will support you. Not everyone is nice and kind but most of them are. You have an academic advisor that you can see weekly to talk about anything and everything that goes on in the class. Peg Alden which is one of the teachers I had last semester, for example, is a very honest and good person at heart and really does care about the students she teaches. Daniel Miller is also a very caring and understanding head of academics who will talk to you and figure out possible solutions if you had issues getting classes. Patti Delaney also an absolute gem of the school when it came to working with you. No school is 100% perfect but this school really does help you in every single way when it comes to tutoring services, academic advisors, teacher discussion. The president of the school is also a very nice and caring person when you talk to him and really shows he cares tremendously about the safety of his students. You really can't find a better school than Landmark College. I mean this is the school that even inspired me to go for a masters in education when I am done."
