Kim Lamoureux Voice Studio

"I have been studying with Kim for about 8 years. My initial goal was to be a better singer to compete for roles in community theater. The first epiphany with Kim’s leadership was that you can continue to improve your technique, expand your vocal abilities, and continue to grow in your art form. I naively thought that you just learned how to sing correctly and then you have mastered the course. Her amazing teacher skills and knowledge have continued to enhance my singing and achieve my ever-evolving goals. Now I know that I can continue to develop my vocal abilities including exploring new genres of music. Over this time with Kim, I have gained ownership of my own sound and abilities, and know that I don’t have to fit into a certain mold. I have nearly finished, with Kim’s help, a multi-year project of developing a one- woman musical show case for nursing homes especially memory care units. Something I want to provide to nursing homes across the country as I travel to see the National Parks during retirement. I especially appreciate Kim’s enthusiastic support for projects like this - always encouraging her singers to keep reaching and improving no matter where her students are in their journey. I am also exploring a new genre of music beyond musical theater and will be developing the skills to perform various trends in folk. She is a great coach and partner in singing that goes far beyond providing a technical lesson."

"I first started seeing Kim in order to address some occasional voice cracking which made me incredibly insecure about performing. Today my concern with cracking is much smaller as we've worked on various techniques to address the situation through positive reinforcement. Working with Kim has given me the confidence to start auditioning for roles that were previously outside of my comfort zone, including joining a national tour for the debut of a new show and completing my first performing set as a solo artist. I'm no longer afraid to take command of my performing space and look forward to continuing our work together well into the future!"

"It is no exaggeration to say that Kim gave me back my voice. I had been an untrained singer for decades. I participated in musical theater -- singing lead and choral roles, I sang karaoke in bars, and I participated in choirs. At some point, my voice began to give out. Formerly a soprano, I began to sing alto but even that was a strain. I was at the point of quitting singing altogether when my choir director suggested voice lessons. I was lucky enough to find Kim. When I first began, I had no confidence, no stamina, and no range. Kim patiently let me duck recitals and coached me on controlling my nerves. As we worked together, I learned so much about breathing, technique, and strategies for practicing. My range came back, and my voice grew stronger. I still struggle with confidence, but now I seek out solo opportunities and say yes (mostly) when given the chance to perform. Kim’s studio format offers a supportive group of fellow singers, and she provides her students with opportunities to get together to learn and perform. My individual lessons are wonderful, but the group experiences are also so valuable. I can’t recommend Kim strongly enough. She has made a huge difference in my musical life."

"Kim is an awesome voice teacher! I was brand new to singing lessons, and I have learned an incredible amount in just a year. She has a great way of explaining how to find the right sound, how to feel it, how the muscles all work together, in a way that helps me understand. She's super supportive and helped me climb my biggest hurdle in the beginning, which was lack of confidence. Every piece we work on challenges me to improve different aspects of my singing and now I look forward to the recitals!"
