"What an incredible music school! I’d highly recommend to anyone wanting to pick up a new instrument or continue growing as a musician. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and super friendly and patient. They truly love what they do which makes learning music that much more fun! Thank you for everything PSoM. You truly encourage me to be the best musician I can be!"
"Can't say enough about the friendly PSM staff. Mrs. Cheryl and Adam are always their to greet you with a smile and ask how you are doing. It's one to one learning experience. And, our daughter's violin teacher, Tom, is awesome!"
"My son took piano lessons at PSM for a year and a half until we moved out of state. His skills developed tremendously to the point where he started writing his own piano pieces. He enjoyed working with both Jim and James, and they were each able to adapt to his learning style and preferences. I was truly impressed with the flexibility offered by the school. In addition to in-person, they also offer lessons via zoom, recorded video lessons, or makeup lessons to meet the needs of busy families/schedules. PSM is a wonderful place for music learners of all ages and abilities!"
"I’m an adult student at the school, and I’ve been having lessons for almost two years. I am very happy with the quality of the lessons and the progress I am making. The instructors are very knowledgeable and are able to extract both technical and theoretical aspects of music on the spot even when we bring our own direction of what we are trying to learn. I’ve had a few in person lessons, but I’m mostly remote, and there’s no impact in having the lessons remote."
"So, I started guitar lessons at age 61 without any prior musical experience (unless you count failing fourth grade recorder lessons). I originally thought I’d take three or four lessons to “see how I liked it,” but Phil (the founder of Providence School of Music) recommended giving it a little longer. Good advice—it took awhile to start seeing results (especially at my age), but the discipline of weekly lessons (and faithful practice) over 8-12 weeks did pay off. I wasn’t ready to join a band, but I felt sufficiently motivated to continue my studies with the school. I even worked up the courage to attend one of the group lessons. And then the pandemic hit. Long story short: Phil and his team made a graceful pivot to online classes and, almost a year since I started my lessons, I am still at it—-now from the comfort of my home. I prefer the in-person classes (the school has a great set up with a bunch of small private, sound-proof rooms), but at my age, I’m not quite ready to resume them. The school has reopened for in-person instruction, however, and I’m certain they are taking appropriate precautions to keep everyone safe. It’s not easy trying something new, and hard to persist when you (as an adult) are accustomed to being “good” at stuff. That said, my teacher, Dave, was very patient and Phil was gracious and welcoming to this insecure novice. I was able to opt out of recitals, skip classes (no refunds, but they offer make up classes), and even use one of the school’s guitars when I first started (before I went out and bought my own). I have not taken classes anywhere else, so I can’t comment on the relative value of these lessons vs others, or on the quality of instruction, but I’ve had a good experience and definitely recommend checking out the Providence School of Music."
