Chris Bryant Guitar Lessons

"I've been working with Chris now for over four years and cannot speak highly enough of him. Chris is extremely professional, diligent and knowledgeable. However, that's not what sets Chris apart. Every other guitar instructor I've worked with --- and there have been several --- always tried to teach me the instrument in a very conventional way. It always started the same (i.e., What type of music do you listen to? What guitarists do you like? What style do you want to play? etc.,). Somehow, though, I always ended up feeling like a passenger in their car. l spent a lot of those lessons watching them play things far beyond my ability and pretending to understand what they were talking about so as to not appear ignorant. In reality, however, I was ignorant. And, after years of trying to learn the guitar with lackluster results, I think I just wanted to find a safe environment to be vulnerable about my skill level. Regardless, I ultimately felt like those other instructors were always in the driver's seat and I was never getting any closer to my destination. Chris was the first person that really listened, and then listened again, and then listened some more. What he knew --- that I didn't --- was that there was no destination, only a journey. In fact, Chris is more of a guide for me than an instructor. Yes, we work on a lot of technique and conventional practice methods. But, the main reason I believe my playing has dramatically improved is because Chris's objective has always been to help me find myself in the instrument, even if it's not necessarily who I thought I wanted to be. Chris's distinct approach is subtle but profound. He really strives to understand who I am as a person so he can give me useful insight about things that may work for me, even if they don't work for him or anybody else. Moreover, Chris's understanding of me --- and the insight he provides --- is based on all aspects of my life, everything from my busy schedule and family life to the various idiosyncrasies in how I learn, communicate and physically approach the guitar. I know the word 'holistic' is overused nowadays, but Chris's approach is truly a holistic one. This is a why his guidance is so insightful. In fact, I can't recall a single session with Chris where I didn't walk away with at least one valuable nugget of information. I honestly can't say enough about Chris, he's truly an amazing person, musician, mentor and friend."
