Reviews of Academy of Notre Dame
"The school was very mid. Especially in the middle school. Although they have a few very nice teachers, the others were mean and not meant to teach. The history teacher especially treated my child with no respect and refused to grade her assignment. All in all I would not recommend anyone to come here."
"Loved my time here as a student (class of '07!!). I am now back at NDA as an employee, and I love it even more than I did back then. My kids are also both enrolled here in the Lower School and having super positive experiences. The communication with their teachers is always open and honest. They are being challenged academically. They always wake up excited to go to school, so that says a lot. I have had nothing but positive experiences dealing with the administration as well. Again, I am nothing but happy with the choice to enroll my children here. I'd recommend NDA to anyone looking for a high-quality education for themselves or their children!"
"When our little elementary school closed at the end of our eldest son's Kindergarten year, we were heartbroken. We loved that the school community truly felt like family and welcomed any and all members from various backgrounds so openly. We were unsure where to send our children as a result of this closure until we toured Academy of Notre Dame. Not only did their professionalism and academic expectations remind us of our previous school, but upon hearing and seeing evidence that one of the cornerstones of the school is the celebration of diversity, we were convinced that we had found the perfect place for our children to learn and grow. These past 2 years have been nothing short of stressful, but one thing we did not have to worry about is whether or not our children were continuing to be educated and nurtured the same way they had that first part of the year at NDA when school was in person before Covid shut down the country. Our children did not lose years, and they were able to transition back into in-person learning seamlessly because of the tireless efforts of the amazing teachers and staff. We cannot recommend this school and community enough to those searching for an educational home for their children to thrive in."
"My child attended NDA for 8 years. During that 8 years, my husband and I were very involved parents, volunteering as much as possible. We made the difficult decision of transferring our child out this year. The administration is not stable at all. The Board of Directors lacks educators on it. The school is run like a business; not a school. I can respect running a business, but maintaining customer satisfaction is a must to your paying customers of that business. I requested a meeting with the new Head of School (This is the 6th Head of School we’ve seen in our 8 years there) prior to making the heart-wrenching decision to leave what was 8 years of my child’s academic history, familiarity and friendships. I received a cancellation email the night before the meeting was to take place. She offered to have her assistant attend the meeting in her place. I requested the meeting with her; not her assistant, though I welcomed him to join. At that point, the Head of School made the decision very easy for us. Even after the school was notified my child wasn’t returning, no one reached out to us and asked why. The meeting was about counseling sessions taking place weekly in my child’s classroom due to “behavioral issues” the children were having. So, instead of dealing directly with the children who were having these “behavioral issues,” they lumped the children into these sessions as a group, requiring all children to attend the sessions, taking them away from their academics, sending the wrong message to the children who were not causing trouble, pitching it as part of their curriculum, which was never introduced to us in the beginning of the school year. I can understand a meeting or two with the children on inclusion, but weekly sessions seemed excessive to me. The school does not discipline misbehaving children or get their parents involved. I felt my child was no longer safe at NDA, even though nothing was personally directed toward my child. As for the weekly counseling sessions... my child reported worse behavior, or no change to behavior from the poorly behaved students - just something for the administration to check off as completed. This school is not the NDA I took my child to 8 years ago. It is not run like a Catholic institution anymore. Those values are gone. My child was fortunate enough to have had some of the best teachers while at NDA, but most of them are gone now, too. My child is a straight A student, well-behaved and found the counseling sessions demeaning, as do I. My child told me they learned what they were being taught in 5th grade counseling sessions in Pre-K, and I agree. I always thought my child would graduate 8th grade from NDA, but I could no longer justify keeping them there. I feel the academics have been lacking as well. It’s all very sad. I would have thought that after trusting NDA with my child for 8 years, not to mention all of the personal time and effort both my husband and I have given the NDA school community, the Head of School would have given us similar courtesy and 15 minutes of her time so we could make an educated decision on whether or not to have my child continue their journey at NDA or not. I was mistaken. Clearly my one child was not enough to award her time. We don’t look back; only forward. I wish nothing but success for the school, as it will always be my child’s elementary school, but I would strongly urge anyone to do their homework and research prior to selecting a school for their child."
"Unfortunately it did not take us long to realize that some of the staff at NDA are hypocritical. One teacher in particular should have been removed from teaching children all together for bullying students. Her actions alone are why we are no longer at this school. The Principle was absurd and did not even speak to the teacher for her poor behavior. It was only after another teacher informed us what was happening that we even knew this was taking place. Honestly, I would not recommend this school to anyone. To think this was at elementary level. Needless to say not a fan of NDA."
