"Dan took me on during COVID, with lessons on zoom. I’m a senior with some classical piano training, but no jazz or improv, which I wanted to try. He has been endlessly resourceful in finding ways to teach (coax) me to improvise. He has worked around my arthritic hands and given me all kinds of tools for practicing, many of which involve technology that he’s taught me. He is unique in his ability to teach theory clearly, and I actually enjoy it! His assignments run the gamut from Gershwin and Hammerstein to Miles Davis and Cannonball Adderly, and lots in between. When I’m discouraged, he focuses on one thing until it’s improved, a great technique."
