"For starters, looking at the reviews yes the wait time to speak to an agent to set an appointment is ridiculous. It is best to call in the afternoon, although you may have to wait 30-45 minutes. I highly recommend to wait on hold and not rely on them giving a call back. Also, you can give a call after 5 and the wait is a lot shorter as well. I’m from New York, there was no availability near me but the Boston location and honestly I had the best experience. The employees were friendly. My mother had an appointment at 11:30am and we arrived around 10am and they let us complete everything, it did not take no longer than 10 minutes. Just be sure to have everything complete, bring the extra pictures of your passport just in case. Follow the instructions given once you are given your appointment and have everything ready. They told us to come back at 3pm, we got back a little earlier and waited online with everyone else. The officer advised us to have the receipt ready and the valid identification used when applying. We did not wait no more than 3 minutes once we were inside receiving the passport."

"The Department of State is so Goofed up. Nearly impossible to reach by telephone . The website is worse.... It took "Congressional Interest" ( Katherine Clark, and Chief of Staff Katie Worley) to get mine - the Day before travel,. That was 8 weeks after "expedited" application. The People at the Passport Office (Once there) were terrific. Shout out to J. Molina, and " the New Guy"."

"Me and my boyfriend were so stressed because we had to get a new passport before our trip to Canada on Sunday, and we only realized on Wednesday. We’re from New Jersey, and could not get an appointment anywhere closer than the Boston location. The reviews were good, and we were hopeful. Came in Friday morning and got the passport before 3pm the same day! Everyone there was friendly, and this is probably the best government agency I’ve ever been to."
