Bikes Not Bombs Hub & Bike Shop
About the Business
Bikes Not Bombs Hub & Bike Shop is a unique institution located at 284 Amory Street in Boston, Massachusetts. As a bicycle store with a mission, Bikes Not Bombs uses the power of the bicycle to create positive social change and economic mobility for marginalized communities in Boston and the Global South.
At our full service, retail bike shop, you can browse our inventory and shop online for a variety of bikes and parts. Each year, we collect around 5,000 used bicycles and parts from our supporters in Greater Boston and New England. These bikes are either shipped overseas to economic development projects in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, or distributed locally through our Youth Pathways program.
In Youth Pathways, teens learn valuable skills in bicycle safety and mechanics while earning bikes for themselves. Our dedicated staff and paid Youth Apprentices work in our Bike Shop & Training Center to recondition and sell donated bikes, with profits going towards funding our youth and international programs.
If you're passionate about our mission, consider joining our team! We are currently hiring for the position of Director of Finance and Human Resources, and have recently filled the Bike School Program Manager position at our Jamaica Plain Hub. Whether you're interested in sales, service, repairs, or getting involved in our Youth Pathways and International Partnerships, there are opportunities for you at Bikes Not Bombs.
Founded in 1984, Bikes Not Bombs is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, making all donations tax deductible. Check out our short documentary, Beyond the Bike, to learn more about our vision for the future and our expansion into Roxbury. Visit us today to support a good cause and find your next bike!

"Needed a basic tune up for my bike. Tuesday: was told by every single person there that “we’re pretty low season right now, so if you bring the bike on Friday, it’ll be done the same day”. Wednesday: brought my bike in Friday: nothing. 0 calls. 0 notifications. Saturday: Again, 0 notifications from them, so I called. Non-chalantly they said “your bike is due on TUESDAY (12/19?!) next week, it SAYS here” I asked “did you even touch the bike at all? Why did you ask me to bring it on Fri?” They said “no. the bike has not been touched at all” Good luck. The audacity to just “input” the business as much as possible, asking costumers to bring their bike in, BUT ZERO “output” (not the courtesy of communicating what’s going on?). When I pick up my bike, they went “have fun with your bike”, knowing full well the bike has NOT been touched/serviced. 100 points for being a disorganized bike shop, 0 points for good quality service. **12/17 EDIT** After seeing this, they left me a voicemail saying that they’ll do the tune up and I should come back. Unfortunately I already dropped my bike to be tuned elsewhere."
"Fantastic bike shop! They teach people to do maintenance, sell new and used bikes, and even have used bike parts. I got my new used bike here and come back whenever I need anything to service it. The people are always helped, and I love being able to buy nice used things and not contribute to the waste steam!"
"Charlie & Susan were quick in identifying what was up with my new used-bike purchase & getting a ticket in for the same day. I think the person who worked on my bike was Gabriel, & I’m super grateful they managed to find time for my drop-in in the midst of a busy schedule!! Will definitely be marking this shop down as my regular spot for the future. :))"
"Donated my bike and got an upgrade. It was great and everyone really knows a lot about bikes and helps you get what you are looking for. They had a huge variety and I ended up getting a beautiful and high quality bike for an amazing price. The piece of mind knowing that you’re shopping with people that really can service a bike is worth the investment and it’s a great value anyways. They are very good at getting you right. You pay a fair price and they will take care of you. Would recommend to anyone looking for a bike and a much more sustainable option than buying a new and probably less high quality bike for the money."
"I went back here to have my bike (Schwinn) looked at once again. My personalized bike mechanic, Pierre, was busy working but was able to take a few minutes to explain to me why my gears were skipping and showed me why. This kid knows his craft. I was impressed once again by his knowledge on bikes and his professionalism. I'm glad Pierre was working because he had given my bike a tune-up a couple of months back along with a bunch of other things. He helped me bring my bike back to life and helped me get back into shape during this pandemic. I seriously recommend you stop by Bikes Not Bombs and see for yourself. Their prices are fair and reasonable and they have other mechanics besides Pierre who are willing to help."
