Reviews of Somenya
"Not a bad little place in Chinatown. The servers were a little inattentive. Didn't check in with us for at least 10 mins after handing us the menu. The servers also was not sure where the Uni were sourced and didn't care to find out. Overall, the food is okay. Cold noodle: The sauce for the cold noodles were not cold. The cold noodles weren't really cold after dipping into the room temp sauce. Shishito Pepper: The pepper was a bit bland since the salt was not sticking to the grease coated skin. Curry Chicken Udon: Most of the fried chicken was in the curry broth turning the crispy skin into soggy chicken bites."
"The house-made noodles are taste and texture perfection, the duck and beef toppings full of flavor and the broth savory and warming. Finished with the soba ice cream, a real treat. Stellar service all the way! Very excited to return to this new restaurant to try more."
"Came across Somenya while searching for food around the area and was excited to try out this new spot in Chinatown. The decor is very inviting and warm, and the service was friendly. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the food. While we enjoyed the broths and toppings (I got the roast duck), we found the texture of the soba noodles to be lacking. There were clumps of soba stuck together in my bowl, and it felt like the toppings to noodles ratio was off. I didn't end up finishing because it wasn't enjoyable to eat the noodles on their own. I'm open to giving their udon or rice bowls another try, but for a soba restaurant, I would expect better."
