"Stayed here for trip to Sunday River for skiing. The inn was cozy with historic charm. Everything was clean and well stocked. We enjoyed the outdoor heated pool on a cold winter night, followed by a great dinner in the Tavern. Definitely will return"
"Staff is wonderful. peaceful quiet rooms can't hear other guests. Large area for conferences. it was very quiet and nice. To be able to swim outside in the winter season."
"My family and I had Thanksgiving dinner here and it was just horrible. The food was mostly inedible ... and not freshly cooked. Turkey and ham very dry, the stuffed sole was dry and old, the roasted vegetables were hard and raw. Everything, including the salad, was room temperature with the exception of the butternut soup (it was warm and actually very good, that is basically what we had for dinner). Even dessert was a disaster. What we thought must be some kind of glaze on the pumpkin pie was just char, as was the crust (was the pie put under a broiler?). Wait staff was inattentive. No one came to ask us about our meal, no one ever came to refresh our (now empty) water glasses. Not the Bethel Inn we have known in the past. And, although the table was set with nice linens and fresh flowers, the plastic containers of McCormick salt and pepper - straight from the supermarket - should have given us a hint of what was to come."
"We had to stay here as we were part of a wedding party so our choices were limited. I was shocked at the price of the hotel but I wanted a decent size room for the stay as we were there for 4 days! The actual wedding planner and wedding day for my friend was perfect! Tavern and folks on site organizing the wedding day were incredible. However, the room was not great my friends had actual HVAC systems in their rooms and I had a window unit. My room was on a corner and with that, the window unit could not keep up with the heat of the room! For what they charge for prices I would expect to at least have decent AC! I also had a friend with key issues not able to access her room! She was “upgraded” to a townhouse! While It was large and nice it was not touched and incredibly hot and took HOURS almost all night for her room to be somewhat decent to sleep in! It was also incredibly far from the wedding party and they were fairly rude to her at the front desk! She was FINALLY able to move to the main building the next night. If you have a large party coming please ensure their rooms are ready, they’re cooled down if in summer or heated for winter guest! Also the “expensive” breakfast in a fancy dining hall was nothing special but powdered eggs, fruit and meat. Overall our stay was not terrible we had fun I just expected more for what we paid!"
"What a horrible experience. The food in the tavern was okay. Nothing special. The room was okay. Fairly uncomfortable. The breakfast was $20 per person. It's just regular hotel breakfast..like at your typical Holiday Inn. There was a lot of noise outside at 6:30 a.m. Lawn mowers, leaf blowers, etc. The room was very expensive($500 for ONE night! We had a credit for $350 +- which was the cost of the room only to get there and have to pay an additional $141..EDIT They charged us an ADDITIONAL $643.00!!!! So total of over $1000 for ONE NIGHT. I had to call my bank and report it as a fraudulent charge! I called this a.m. and spoke to a guest service person who was unwilling to help. Not sure why because the room rates online were around $350...which i hope to get an explanation for)for what it was and we totally forgot about the "Resort Fee" implemented by old Janet Mills at an additional $62...not sure what this is supposed to be for either, but will likely not visit Maine Resorts in the future. We are relatively local and were just trying to get away for the night for our belated Anniversary. We had to cancel our original night due to my back, which im scheduled for surgery, so i can only travel so far and the Bethel Inn was the only place with availability on that original date. Anyhow...There are many other more pleasant places to stay for a much better value. The bartender was the highlight of our stay. She was extremely pleasant but did shut down the bar 45 minutes earlier than she told us...Kind of weird...We've stayed all over the country at many beautiful Inns and Resorts but we checked out today feeling let down...and ripped off honestly. I suggest other accommodations, but if you DO stay, check your room charges against your bank account. I am reading other reviews where they have tried to sneak extra charges in. Be wary."
