"I first came to Burundi Star Coffee during the pandemic, not long after it opened. I made it a personal mission to support the cafe and introduce it to family and friends and now visit every time I return home to Maine - it’s my first stop after flying in to Portland Jetport! I am so happy that it is open and thriving with many fans. The coffee is seriously good and strong - maybe the best in town - and I’ve had it both hot and iced. The sambousas are yummy snacks, the merchandise is cool, and the service is warm and friendly. Scoop up a free copy of Ajambo Africa, a local multilingual community newspaper, purchase some coffee beans to go for your friends, and maybe get yourself a baseball hat to show Burundi Star Coffee love. I proudly wear my hat in NYC!"
"Love love love this place! Happily work down the street and is such a treat to come down for amazing coffee and THE. BEST. avocado toast. AND the staff are sweet and welcoming? Just wonderful. I also get whole bean coffee for home and it's fantastic."
"Simply put- every time I start my day at Burundi Star I know it will be a good day! The coffee is phenomenal, the food is delicious, made with care, and comes out quickly, and the atmosphere is calm, casual, and relaxed- quite often the shop is filled with the chatter of interesting people connecting with each other over good food and good coffee. This place is a hidden gem in Portland, and I can’t recommend it enough (if that is not obvious by now). Stop by if you’re around- try the avocado toast or the egg sandwich…or if you’re lucky enough to stop by when Jocelyne is throwing down the homemade french toast special then you better make SURE to try it- you won’t be disappointed. Overall, Burundi Star is a place that creates community through food, it is one of my favorite spots in town, and if you haven’t been by yet then you are missing out and I feel sorry for you."
"So unassuming, but so good. Small menu, but the coffee is excellent and the sandwiches are incredible. The avocado toast was better then ive had at fancy brunch spots with fresh, warm bread. Perfectly ripe avocado (with a little lime), and an egg made on the spot. Great stop."
"It is no kidding this place has 5 stars. This was our first stop on our mini trip to Maine, and it did not disappoint! We got a drip coffee and iced coffee, which I’m the iced coffee is hands down the smoothest I’ve ever had. 1/2 avocado toast with egg and a bacon and egg sandwich. The sandwich had the perfect ratio of melts cheese to other toppings. The avocado mash was packed with flavor. They also offer a habanero chili oil if you like spice, be careful because it’s hot, but damn it’s good. My lips are still tingling from it. You guys gotta come and check this place out. It is to die for."
