Reviews
"A unique experience. Good food at a reasonable price."
"The food was good had an excellent portion. This is not a place where you would bring children. They seem to only want their locals there not really encouraging people to come back again if you are from out of town or just have to swing in. They just wrote down how much you owe but they don't tell you how it broke down they just kind of invent the price for you to pay. I am cannabis patient and yes i would smoke with another. I don't know why the fact I would smoke with another cannabis patient would mean anything different about your lack of service."
"Enter if you dare, and only then if you have a sense of humor. This dark comedy is not "based on a true story," this *is* the true story, bub. We walk in, having read the polarizing reviews. The one-stars cite that people yelled at them, the five stars citing friendly staff. Well, folks, that's because you get out of The Hot Spot Diner what you put into it. This is an ~experience~ "SIT WHEREVER!!" We do. Of course, greeted by 1,000 smiling skulls. It's called "decor," look it up. The waiter (sorry, sir, I didn't catch your name) introduces himself as an alien who has recently landed from 40,000 lightyears away, and also, do we know what we want yet? We don't. The specials include "corn chow" and "beef strong." [I'll include a photo in case no one believes any of this is real. You'll find the primary document shows not one of the specials is fully written out with all its letters. "Why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?”] Beef strong was beef stroganoff, if you must know. In case the "we serve food with attitude" and "you can't pee for free" and the 1,000 skulls of customers past didn't alert you to the tone of this restaurant, well ... that's the tone of this restaurant. And if you're a good humored soul and hand it back to them, things will go great. And if you're a jerk who talks back, hoo-eee that probably won't go great for ya. The locals will getchya too. When I struggled to get the syrup out of the bottle (twist the lid), they let me know I was an idiot. Yes, the fellow customers, the regulars, called me an idiot. Because, in fairness, I was being an idiot. You can see why this place gets 5 stars or 1 star reviews. It's a reflection of the reviewer, not this absolute 10/10 gem of a place. The food was fine. Let's get back to the waiter. He came from 40,000 lightyears away to cure humanity of all our woes, and he has a lot left to do — "have you heard what's happening in Ukraine?" He was raised in Boston with 7 sisters. Need more coffee? I do, thanks. I ask for some of that corn chow. "DO WE HAVE ANY CORN?" The kitchen lady yells back NO. "DO WE HAVE ANY CHICKEN SOUP?" [I didn't ask for chicken soup, but sounds great, right?] The kitchen lady yells back NO. They have seafood chow. Not today, thanks. Won't go well with the blueberry waffle, but that's just this author's opinion. Food was good, but that's not the point is it? This is *theater*, baby, so come for the show, come for the alien, be kind and you might be OK. Twist the maple syrup bottle. I'll be back soon. Love you, Hot Spot Diner! PS: Great little vintage shop in an old church across the street (photo)."
