"We came here on a Sunday afternoon cuz it’s always so packed at dinner time~ We were greeted right away when we walked in, staff were very helpful and let us took our time deciding on what to fill our giant bowls with… the bowl is GIANT, so pace yourself because I definitely overfilled my bowl.. but they’ll let you take the rest home so no big deal I guess.. They have their own soy milk! Which I’ll have to try next time, but they have most of the drinks you’d want for spicy food, Chinese coconut milk and herbal tea is my go-to and they have both. Veggie bar! Super fresh, temperature controlled, and filled to the top neatly, their freezer for all the meats and fish balls, tofu, was also plenty good, wide range of noodle selections, and I’d say it’s pretty on par with what happy lamb has across the street. You weigh your selection and pay at the front, they give you a number tag and your bowl goes into the kitchen to be cooked. We got the Mala Tang which has a nice rich broth and you can select your spice levels, I picked no spice but definitely feel some peppery spices that may not be regular chili peppers? It wasn’t unbearable for someone with low spice tolerance like me, and definitely was a good appetite inducing taste! My friend got seafood in his bowl and they were fresh and delicious! Definitely recommend this for a cold day, and if you’re not about cooking at the table."
"The best MalaTang in Boston area. You are greeted by the warmth of the staff as you enter. They guide you through the process and can also offer suggestions. The portions can be huge for a person, so be mindful while you pick stuff from the buffet style ingredients."
"BEST! SOUP! EVER! you can get hot pot style soup or dry noodles here. You pay per lb and pick from a variety of vegetables, meats, noodles, meat or seafood balls, and other additives. Seriously amazing flavour of broth. This is my new favorite restaurant in the Allston area!"
"I visited this restaurant before randomly, and it left a lasting impression on me so I came back only two days after. I missed the malatang I had in South Korea, and this restaurant is set up just like it! You can choose your own veggies, meat, noodles, etc as much as you’d like, and they weigh it by the pound. You can also choose the spice level; we got the medium, which wasn’t that spicy. We got a total of 3.4 pounds, which came out to about $47. The broth was very good and warm, although I was expecting more of a mala taste (it was a bit too faint). The service was fast, and the Korean server was incredibly kind and receptive to our needs. Overall, great service & good food."
"The price is calculated by weight, it depends how much you get in your bowl for Malatang. There’s a rule that you have to get at least 1 pound. The server are nice a patient when explaining. You can also adjust the level of spice that suits you. I have my bowl 1.5 pounds, and it cause nearly 30(include tax and tip) but everyone have to give minimum 10 percent of tip if dine in. Nothing really surprise me, it just standard Malatang and a bit overpriced. I’m also confused about the meat section because there’s no label, so you may accidentally get the wrong protein you want. Overall, standard food, overpriced, good service."
