"I was charged $516 for basic tax returns I could've done myself. I went to JH because there was one form that I was confused about, and apparently that's why my cost was "advanced" and brought it from the advertised $65 starting price to $516. My previous accountant doesn't even charge that much for 35 minutes of assistance. I didn't even need the form because nothing was deductible. The accountant assisting me at JH found a "discount" for first time users but I still paid $316 for NOTHING. And I saw after the fact that there's an additional discount for nurses, which I am and we discussed that because of my W-2 from my employer. I'm gutted that I don't get much money back to begin with but also the fact that it's so much less because I paid JH for something I should've been able to do myself. I didn't feel like I was actually assisted, I essentially read off values for the accountant to input into whatever system JH uses. She was nice enough and did her job, but no one should have to sit through an appointment not knowing filing is going to cost the same amount as your return. I will never return to JH and I've already advised many people that your advertising is garbage and not even close to actually pricing."
