"I don't shop here anymore. My biggest complaint is that it takes forever to get checked out. If you have frozen food in your cart then put it back because by the time you get it checked out and back home it will have melted. They have zero self-service checkouts. And even their 'Express' checkout can take 10 minutes or longer. The shopping aisles are extremely narrow as are the checkout lanes themselves. I alway feel trapped and claustrophobic during the checkout process. But the store is overcrowded because of the affordable prices. For cost savings Market Basket beats the competition. The last few times I have made the mistake of shopping here I have abandoned my full shopping cart at the registers. I often buy fresh seafood and after 10 or more minutes of waiting in line to get cashed out, I know that there are health risks with eating unrefrigerated seafood. The store on Lafayette Rd is much better. The other store is modern and it is easier to locate products in comparison. And the checkout experience on Lafayette Rd is far more convenient."

"This store has friendly, helpful staff, excellent prices, and a varied selection of grocery items. The fruit and vegetables are fresh, the meat is cut well, the Deli is fresh and the bakery is wonderful. The items are rotated for freshness, and they are always stocking because of the popularity of the store"

"The only odd thing is that they've hired a bunch of new cashiers recently and none of them will tell you your total after finishing scanning your items. It makes the checkout interaction very awkward, not to mention it's not accessible if someone happens to be illiterate or blind."

"I use to shop here all the time. Recently my 2 year wanted to get a toy out of their quarter machine and need quarters for a dollar. The cashier called a younger manager over who said they don’t traditionally do it but I could try by going to the other end of the store and waiting in the customer service line. Absolutely rediculous especially since I would have been spending the quarters in their machine. Won’t be back here again"

"We do just about all of our grocery shopping at Market Basket in Portsmouth. They almost always have everything we need in stock. Nice clean store, most of the staff are friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking, easy in and out, and great shopping hours as well."
