Reviews
"Great little store in the heart of JP. People are really nice and there is a good selection of grocery items. While everything is very expensive, it is high quality."
"UPDATE: the owner of city feed received well my review and critic and he refunded the sandwiches. I am happy that they paid attention to the customers and reached out. Looking forward to enjoy their delicious sandwiches in the future. Leaving my previous review for accountability purposes. ‐-------------- On 12/31 my husband and I went to City Feed for our last lunch of the year, craving their delicious Italian sandwiches. Unfortunately, to our disappointment, we received bagels instead of the regular bread we expected. The total cost for both sandwiches was almost $30, and we were more than willing to pay for them, as it was a special treat for us. Additionally, we purchased a pumpkin pie and cheese to support the business, bringing our total bill to $70. I originally tried to reach out through an Instagram message because we noticed a crowd at the business, and we didn't want to cause any inconvenience for the employee(s) responsible for making the sandwiches or taking our order. ...But,they didn't see their message despite of have more recent posts... It would have been appreciated if we were informed that they were out of the regular bread, allowing us to decide whether we wanted the alternative or choose a different sandwich. I believe this is the minimum expectation for an order, especially when each sandwich costs around $15."
"As a recent member of the JP neighborhood, I was so excited to try CityFeed having heard from so many locals how great it is. I have been 3 times, and each time left incredibly frustrated and disappointed. The first time, I ordered a latte before work. It wasn’t crazy busy, but the employees stood around chatting without making the drink. I waited 15 minutes before they handed me a burnt mocha. The second time I ordered two salmon bagel sandwiches, two regular coffees, and two muffins. The total came to $50, but ok lox can be expensive. When I took a bite I noticed there was hardly any salmon. I opened the bagel, and found 1 thin slice. I took a photo, as my partner and I were shocked. The third and final visit, I tried the Turkey and Brie warm sandwich half. For $9, I received an inedible sandwich as the bread was so burnt it couldn’t be eaten. Needless to say, I’m done. Outrageously expensive, some of the worst food I have ever waisted money on and staff who make customers feel uncomfortable. Do not recommend."
"Sandwiches are fine enough, but this place is a disaster. The service may be the worst in Boston. It's almost like they deliberately set out to provide the most rude, indifferent, and incompetent service in Boston. Also the grocery prices are comically insane, making Whole Foods seem cheap, and much of the produce is mediocre."
"Lively atmosphere with interesting items that you wouldn't get at an ordinary grocery store. This is a great place to go if you not only want groceries but want to explore with things you wouldn't want to get on an ordinary trip. However, I have to take off one star because of the pricing. Special things like gourmet cheeses or vegan eggs I can understand why the price would be higher, but not regular produce. Here, vegetables, eggs, milk, etc. is always more here than at ordinary grocery stores, which shouldn't be the case because here the products are the exact same. For example, red onions at Stop and Shop are $1.99 for a two pound bag, a half dozen eggs from Country Hen are $5.29, and this exact same bottle of Sriracha Sauce at a nearby Asian grocery store is $3.99. I know that City Feed is a special grocery store but prices for the exact same thing should not be this much higher. One more thing, I also saw a poster displaying that the workers are organizing for a union, I would be very interested about updates on that, and is something I believe City Feed should support as well. Overall, this is a great place, but I would only stick to buying gourmet or specialty items you wouldn't find at your ordinary grocery store."
