"In this Stop & Shop getting quality/fresh fruits, vegetables and chicken. It is a small shop and having sufficient parking lots. However, if you're a smart shopper and you have their app, you may find sales and discounts that level the playing field in terms of cost."
"The store itself is clean and easy to navigate through; however the staff can be inept and rude. There have been a few occasions where I was left unacknowledged at the deli counter while they were still open. Or I've been made to feel like an intrusion or I've been rudely hurried along as I'm trying to check out by the frontend staff persistently saying the store is closed but not offering any assistance to help remaining customers complete their shopping trips."
"Stop & Shop, in my opinion, offers superior quality fruits, vegetables, and meats (e.g., chicken, beef, and pork) when compared with Market Basket. It goes without saying that it comes at a higher cost, in most cases. However, if you're a smart shopper and you have their app, you may find sales and discounts that level the playing field in terms of cost."
"Stop & Shop carries a few things I can't get elsewhere, so I go once in a while. Every time I do, I am reminded how customer-hostile this store is. I have no issue with the food—they have good quality produce, deli, and butcher departments and their dry goods selection is great. The store is clean and usually not crowded. Until you get to the checkout! Today (Sunday at 1pm) only 3 of 10 lanes were staffed. Each had a line 6 or 7 carts long, stretching into the aisles and blocking people still trying to shop. This is of course to shunt people to the self-checkout lanes, so the store can staff two or three fewer cashiers—typical corporate greed. (A self-checkout is fine, especially for people with just a couple things, but here there’s folks with full carts struggling with these machine. Every single person seems to need assistance anyway.) Getting back to my experience, there was also no bagger—I had to do it myself. But somehow the store has the money to buy a robot that drives around getting in everyone's way. I can never find someone in the aisles, either, unless you count the people putting together curbside orders. If a store is going to ignore the customers who actually shop there, maybe they should just transition to a 100% curbside model. Then they could toss out their few remaining cashiers. Their advertised prices aren't much higher than other stores around here, BUT they still use customer data tracking cards—sorry, "loyalty cards" (the last store around here that does) and if you don't use the card, your bill is penalized by 10% or more. It's really pretty outrageous if you think about it. Anyway, if you want Boar's Head Deli or whatever, swing in for a few things. But I'd think twice before doing a weekly shop here. Edit to add: the store responded, saying they missed the mark and want it to discuss it with me. But what is there to discuss? Staff the checkout lanes adequately. If you’re having trouble hiring it's because you aren't paying enough. Ditch the customer data tracking cards. And of course, do so without doubling all your prices. You MIGHT have to accept somewhat less profit."
"I love this Stop and Shop. The employees are great, and I can’t think of a suburban supermarket with a better imported goods section."
