"We planned on a 12-day self drive vacation to Ireland. We did a great deal of research prior to the trip on rental car options, lodging, getting tickets to special sites and attractions, and other critical travel information. Although we had a list of sites/attractions we considered "must do's" and a general idea of a itinerary, we realized we really needed the expertise of a person/company that specialized in travel to Ireland. That is how we found Crystal Travel and Tours. Mr. Sean McCay was assigned as our travel specialist it became immediately clear that we made a great choice! Sean did not try to sell us on any pre-set itinerary or plan - he did not try to tell us what we "should" see or do or places we "should visit". Sean listened to what we had in mind - our list of "must do's" - our desire to spend as much time wandering the backroads and finding towns and villages to meet locals, enjoy traditional Irish food and music and while still seeing well known sites such as the Ring of Kerry, exploring the Dingle Peninsula (Slea Head Loop), and visiting the Cliffs of Moher. We were not interested in staying at 5-star hotels preferring to stay at B&B's or smaller hotels that were located within easy walking distance of restaurants and pubs. From those early discussions, Sean developed a draft itinerary for us that we discussed and modified until perfect! Although we secured flights on our own, Sean made sure we had the rental car (with required insurance levels) and hotels in Dublin, Waterford, Cork, Dingle, and Galway before heading back towards Dublin for our departure flight. He made sure we had tickets ahead of time to our must see attractions as well as pre-paid tickets for the ferry across the Shannon River on our was to Galway. Every lodging property was great with very special nods to the Heatons Guesthouse (Dingle), the Brooks Hotel (Dublin), and the Granville Hotel (Waterford). Sean made excellent suggestions of side roads to take to minimize our time on the Motorways and maximize our time on side/back roads of Ireland. Without his help we would never have visited two of our favorite small Irish villages/towns - Shillelagh and Kong - nor would we have spent a fabulous morning visiting a working sheep farm where we got to sheer a sheep, feed lambs, and watch a master farmer work his sheep dog. Sean recommended we attend the Merry Ploughboy Pub in Dublin for an exceptional traditional Irish dinner along with an outstanding Irish music and dance show! He made sure we had reserved tickets at all of the distilleries and breweries on our list to visit. Sean was ALWAYS just a call or email away and it was like having a private tour guide with us the entire trip. Needless to say the trip was an absolute gem of an experience! Although 12-days was hardly enough time to see all of Ireland - we were able to maximize our time in Ireland thanks to Sean. If you have any plans on visiting Ireland or Scotland and want the kind of help only experts can provide - you cannot go wrong dealing with Crystal Tours & Travel! Giving them 5-Stars does not do them justice at all! They are a top notch family owned and operated business and provide exceptional travel support! If you do contact them - ask for Sean! He was great and we are already looking to working with him on a planned self-drive visit to Scotland in 2025!"
