"I went in to find a replacement for a water heater tank temperature control that had accidentally gotten shorted out on our new tank due to an accident (user error). It turns out that they rarely fail and it isn't normally a stock item by itself. Nevertheless, they took a unit that was bundled with a tank kit they had in stock and reordered the part for stock so that they could sell it to me that day. The person at the counter also explained some wiring differences between the new part and the one I brought in to show them. He brought out a furnace controller they had in stock so that he could point out exactly where this replacement would need to draw its power; since the replacement needed an external power supply and the original did not. Before they sold me this $70 part, they had made a phone call to a distributor and talked with a few of the trades people who were in getting parts for their own jobs that day, since the part I brought in was in some ways non-standard, and they wanted to be sure that I would succeed when I put the replacement in. The information they got and gave me was exactly what I needed and I succeeded with it. A very friendly collaborative atmosphere and excellent customer service, for a guy who just came in needing to but one inexpensive thing to make a homeowner repair."
