Reviews of 1947 Norwood
"If the food was not so great, I would’ve given this place a 2 for the service. I highly recommend this place to others but go there prepared! There won’t be a hello or welcome, no please no thank you, no smile at all, staff will be standing with their arms folded and looking extremely disgruntled. Ensure to go the bathroom before you leave the house because the restroom is disgusting. But the food is that goos that I’ll definitely go back."
"Best authentic Indian food in greater Boston!!! 1947 by far has the most extensive menu of all Indian restaurants I have visited. Check out the menu and you will see what I mean. The restaurant even has Indian beer (Taj Mahal) and Indian single malt whisky. Food Ginger fish, a whole fish sauteed with ginger and garlic, was top notch. Skins and meat came off so smooth from the bones, and the tasted fresh and seasoned just right. Mirchi Bajji (deep fried chillies stuffed with onions and peanuts) was fantastic, and it’s something I don’t see often in many places. Palak Paneer (indian cottage cheese cooked with spinach and cream, think Indian green curry) was creamy yet spiced just right to be able to eat a lot with rice and naan without making my stomach feel heavy. Garlic naan is delicious - something I would order every time. Ambience / Atmosphere Clean and well decorated. Live music on weekends. Easy parking. Service Service was great that I have no complaints. This place is a hidden gem, and even if the restaurant is a bit of a drive from my home (45-75 minutes depending on traffic), I’d still make a trip out regularly to enjoy amazing Indian food. Highly recommend!!!"
"I've been stubbornly going to one Indian restaurant in the South End - Mela. I've tried maybe a couple more but it was always a disappointment so I decided to not venture elsewhere for my quest for Indian cuisine. I came here because we were nearby and my friends really wanted to do Indian so like a good camper, I went. And I am glad I did, I've never had a flakier or buttery-er samosa like this before. Everything was great but I kind of wish the mild dishes could be milder. Other than that, I have no complaints. The atmosphere was chill and service was superb. Treat yourself to this unique experience. Oh they even have a DJ and somebody went up to karaoke. Super fun vibes!"
"Very nice atmosphere and wide range of selections on the menu for vegetarians. The food is pretty average. Nothing out of the ordinary. We got their signature dishes and they were just above average. There was no one by the door to seat us and when we had asked, they just asked us to sit wherever. A little unusual compared to all the other restaurants. What felt weird was the bathroom signs. You'd have to basically look at the door and figure out which one was for men or women. When I tried to use the women's restroom, a male employee came out after using it so that's not normal."
