"Wimpy's may be the name but their portions are anything but. Prime Rib, fresh Seafood, Chicken ..Cozy. Cheers like ambience in the bar to watch a game and eat their scrumptous clams casino or Chili on a cool day. But my favorite of all is their sherry laced chowder. It is the best on the Cape. Or anywhere. Look forward to visit when I am on the Cape. Love this place! Changing from 5 star to two at best.. Update in '23.. turkey dinner 22, waitress forgot mashed potatoes n cranberry sauce..they changed the chowder not sherry laced anymore..because we " have new managers"waitress said. Salmon 28.00 not worth the price rice was ice cold..memories should stay just as memories..present is not what it was before..last time going here after 23 years ..menu is totally different..don't bother..waste of money..even the lemon for my ice tea was a mushy mess.."
"Went for dinner here recently after an early show at the Melody Tent. In the past we've had wonderful meals and service. This time we felt the atmosphere was definitely off, in fact, the staff appeared to be tense and not too welcoming. We entered the main dining room from the parking lot and saw many open tables, but when asked if we had a reservation(which we did not)we were told to go to the tavern part of the restaurant. This was not a big deal, but the young hostess seemed to be perturbed by the fact that we did not know we needed reservations. We made our way to the tavern, where we were met by the hostess who seated us right away. The odd thing was that she had her back to us the entire time, and when I said, "Thank you," it was not even acknowledged with any kind of pleasantry. Our waitress appeared to be a bit stressed and maybe, even nervous. When I placed my order, I apparently erroneously assumed my entree came with two sides. I ordered a seafood pasta dish and when I asked for the two sides, I was not informed that this entree did not come with sides. When my entree came, I was missing the pasta portion. When our waitress was absent for a little while, we asked another young staff member if she could ask our waitress to come to our table as I wanted to ask her a question about the missing pasta. The next thing I knew, the hostess peered around the corner of our booth and asked rather sharply, "You have a problem here?" I told her I just wanted to ask our waitress if the pasta might have been forgotten for this order. After taking my dish, the hostess came back and said the waitress apparently thought that I didn't want the pasta, but side dishes instead. The hostess admitted the waitress should have mentioned that the pasta dish did not come with sides. I understood and was fine with the explanation. I also apologized for my lack of understanding the menu and options. Before I could say anything else, the hostess said, "Don't worry, we'll take care of it." So, my dish was returned to me with the pasta portion. When our waitress came back, I apologized for my part of the misunderstanding, as I hoped she didn't get in trouble for it. It simply was not a big deal to me, I was just surprised that the pasta based dish had no pasta, that my sides were the substitutions. Anyways, the food was delicious regardless of the misunderstanding. And then the bill came....the hostess certainly took care of it, however, the "don't worry part" of the solution was a charge of an extra $10.00 for the two sides...again, I was never told there would be the extra charge. It is not about the money, to me it is the principle of the matter. It was a very unwelcoming experience, with a lack of good communication, several misunderstandings, and a tense staff who made little effort to be pleasant. Oh, and yes, we still tipped 20% as we were not disgruntled patrons ....just very disappointed ones. Should Wimpy's be renamed, "Grumpy's?""
"Mark and I were here in March when the Cape was quiet and empty and cold. We sat at the bar and chit chatted with the staff and had a decent clam chowder but that's all we had. This time we were 6, all having dinner and it was so fabulous. I had the pasta with scallops which was to die for, plump plentiful scallops and perfectly cooked pasta in a heavy handed white wine sauce with mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. We started with a pile of steamed clams which was a little on the sandy side but I didn't care. The clams were so fresh and tasty I ate them without dipping in sauce. Our friends had the sword fish and the Fra Diavolo which they loved. The salmon was also good and the lobster salad roll was a healthy portion of lobster on a roll perfectly toasted with crispy edges but still soft and buttery. All in all a delicious meal in a very old school homey environment that reminds me a little of a British pub in certain areas, in others it looks like a country inn. There is a large glassed in conservatory in the back which I imagine is lovely during brunch / lunch. Our friend Holly worked there as a teen during the summers and now she has a home nearby and we had to come eat here. So happy we did."
"The food was great and the restaurant is nice. The look of the restaurant inside is really interesting and nice. The food was great but I felt it was not the best. I have had better clam chowder and lobster rolls before. This is why I give this place four stars. I recommend this to people who like seafood."
