Reviews of Salem Cross Inn
"We had the opportunity to celebrate a special occasion with the Fireside Feast event at Salem Cross Inn. At this event they roast - on 18th century spits - some delicious prime rib while serving mulled wine and cider heated with period fire irons. While the prime rib is finishing up, guests can take a horse-drawn carriage ride around the property, returning to the tap room to help mix the seafood chowder they make in a cauldron above the same fire! Once that is complete we all ascend to the dining room to enjoy the delicious soup and entree capped off by an apple crisp buried under a huge dollop of house made whipped cream. This is an EXPERIENCE!! The location itself is beautiful. The staff was friendly and the cooking team was enthusiastic. The toasty fire, smell of hardwood smoke, warm cider and wine, and cozy post and beam rustic setting are just perfect ,It's a community style event, too, where mingling and talking to new people during both the gathering hour and dinner is encouraged by the free-form tap room seating and long bench tables of the dining room. We had wonderful conversations with different couples throughout the event. As people who connect over a shared enjoyment of food, cooking, community, and rustic simplicity, this was truly a wonderful (and highly recommended) evening."
"We ALWAYS stop here with our tour groups when we are anywhere nearby. It is a special experience and different from the Wayside Inn, which we also visit on our tours for New England fall foliage and in the general Massachusetts area. Having the guided tour make such a difference to see all of the collections of the sisters' father. It's so funny that their last name is Salem and the name of the place is Salem Cross Inn. If you look at the photos I posted, you will see the actual symbol of the Salem Cross that is throughout the building. Having the prime rib on a spit cooking for us on arrival is so authentic and warm and cozy. For dessert, they make homemade whipped cream and bring it out in a giant bowl. I've never had a cold meal or a disappointing dessert when I have brought my tour groups. What if you don't eat me? That is never a problem for them. They will accommodate any dietary requests and will make sure everyone is well fed and satisfied. Having entertainment is so special because this last tour I had someone who was a professional singer and I did not even know it! She got up and saying bye bye love with the guitarist. It was fabulous. If you have a group, business dinner, rehearsal, dinner, wedding, or any special occasion with family and friends you'd like to celebrate, this is the place. Nancy is very easy and accommodating to work with and Heather is fabulous and I have known her for years. It makes all the difference when we visit."
"Salem Cross Inn is definitely a special occasion place. It has a tiny tavern in the basement with a small intimate bar near a cozy fireplace that looks out onto the endless pastures & wildflower gardens. Evan always checks in to make sure you’re taken care of. Tyler & Heather the bartenders are extremely hospitable & always remember you. They have a lovely ever changing specials menu along with their standard options that are difficult enough to pick from as they are all so amazing. The Duck is crispy & decadent , the catfish ( a special ) melted in your mouth accompanied by jalapeño cheddar grits!!! Every dinner comes with their delectable squash muffins ( which are great for breakfast with coffee!). They have an amazing Caesar salad -perfectly dressed. If you are looking for a cozy date night place with attention to detail you will not be disappointed!"
"What a great experience. Definitely had a veteran server who has seen her fair share of guests. Food was simply amazing the atmospheric was second to none. Will be returning I think it's my spouses and I new spot."
"Salem Cross Inn is the perfect Historic New England wedding venue. It is filled with charm! We were married here many years ago and it could not have been more perfect! It was a rainy day on the morning of our wedding and miraculously stopped raining just before ceremony time. The staff rushed to dry off seats and we were able to get married in front of the gardens and gazebo! The cows in the distance were even moo’ing as we were pronounced married! The food is amazing from the rolls, seasonal vegetables, prime rib, and the amazing cake. We had the most fun dancing the night away in the barn. Now, when we get to photograph weddings here we are always so excited! It is such a beautiful location to take photographs with all of the gorgeous barns, gardens, horse drawn carriage, dirt roads, and carriage house. The staff are always so kind and attentive and we now consider them friends. We love being able to make photos for couples here because we know firsthand how fun it is remembering our wedding day at Salem Cross Inn and it is also fun to go there for dinner on our anniversary!"
