Reviews of Ed's Barber Shop
"I have been going to Ed’s since I moved to the neighborhood 10 years ago. I haven’t been anywhere since. Unfortunately today everyone has to post what they like and don’t like. Well, I like the old fashioned feel of a barbershop every 3-4 weeks. Ed’s father gave you that feel, he told me if you don’t like something, tell me. Not in those words. That was it, I was sold. Ed Jr does a superb job. As meticulous as they come. He runs the shop now that his father retired. I like the idea of a father passing his business down to his son. Ed can’t say the things his father used to say back in the day in this current climate, but he will always be honest with you. For anyone that walks out of a barbershop unsatisfied, frankly it’s their own fault for not speaking up. Walking into Ed’s is like walking into my old neighborhood barbershop growing up. You may have to wait a bit because Ed is on his own now, but you will never have to worry about him rushing your cut to get to the next customer. Classy old style barbershop that unfortunately is one of only a few left. Take advantage of it while it is still here."
"I've been coming to Ed's almost exclusively since I moved to Providence in 2011. The shop is a classic spot that hasn't had to change much in the 60+ years it's been in business. Ed Sr. cut my hair superbly for many years before unfortunately he began to lose his touch, and had to retire. Since then, Ed's has been taken over by his son, and the top class service one would expect has been restored. Ed Jr. provides a haircut with a precision, care and detail that is unmatched. If you're in Providence and looking for a clean, professional cut, you won't be disappointed at Ed's."
"4th and unfortunately the last time I'm going to eds barber shop, got the worst hair cut I've ever had at eds today. Before I left the chair I told him it looked uneven and not the same on both sides of my head and not faded in what so ever, I argued it wasn't and was met with an attitude. I could not get out the chair fast enough!. Wasn't until I got home and had my wife check it over and she noticed that my neck was half shaved and cut at an angle, behind my ears there were uncut hair and the sides uneven. I don't have the heart to return to eds and to refuse to get in to ed seniors chair, his son however has cut my hair twice and has been very good."
"Decided to try this place out since I'm new to the area and its within walking distance. Huge mistake. Ed took a chunk out of my hair maybe a half inch by inch above my ear (see picture). Obviously a mistake but he failed to tell me about it and charged me full price (plus tip) for a botched hair cut. I noticed the chunk missing when I got home. Additionally, I was cut in several places with the straight blade on the back of my neck. It has now been almost a week of me walking around looking like an idiot or trying to hide my hair with a hat. I do not recommend this places unless you'd like to share my embarrassment."
"Visited the barbershop on a Wednesday afternoon, and I waited for about an hour until it was my turn because there were 2 people came in before me and Ed was the only that working. It is OK though because that means Ed took his time with each customer. He is also a "social butterfly", he will chat to you about anything from good spots to eat in the neighborhood (since I just moved to Providence) to how to get girls' numbers. Very down to earth guy. His son came in (his name is also Ed) and he was the one who cut my hair. He was very polite, I showed him a picture of my haircut from my last barber. He cut it even better. I was very pleased with the outcome. I would definitely come back here."
