Double Edge Theatre
About the Business
Double Edge Theatre, located at 948 Conway Road in Ashfield, Massachusetts, is a unique institution conceived, created, and performed by Travis Coe and directed by Stacy Klein. The theatre explores the concept of freedom and the boundaries one must break through to achieve it, touching on personal, artistic, societal, and political aspects. Coe, as a caretaker of a museum of memory, delves into his own identity as Queer, Black, Latinx, and American in search of the path towards freedom.
Double Edge Theatre is an art, community, and cultural collective that prioritizes imagination in times of uncertainty. Their work, grounded in a rigorous ensemble aesthetic, unfolds in dream, imagery, metaphor, mystery, and symbolism. The institution's mission is to pursue authenticity, interaction, and identity for those seeking creative, emotional, spiritual, and political clarity.
Stacy Klein, the Founder and Artistic Director of Double Edge Theatre, has been working with Baraka Sele to articulate the institution's past and present as they approach their 40th anniversary. Inspired by the visual art, writings, and life of Leonora Carrington, a British-born Mexican artist, the theatre's surreal performances explore encounters between characters like Leonora and Adán, portraying magic, mystery, and humanity.
Double Edge Theatre is committed to building equity and solidarity on the platform of Art Justice, collaborating with artists, neighbors, participants, and consultants to reflect the larger population of the region, state, and country. The institution protects the silence of its internal space while ensuring that no one is silenced. Visit Double Edge Theatre or watch their online premieres to experience their unique and thought-provoking performances.

"Amazing! This is a hidden gem in the hilltowns of western Mass. They are doing amazing cultural awareness work and supporting indigenous voices through youth empowerment and storytelling."
"This place has been around for over 40 years and the immersive performance we seen was great"
"A unique experience. Really exceptional. Bring bug spray!"
"This campus is INCREDIBLE. Just gorgeous. Every building is thoughtfully and beautifully constructed. I've only been to one show, as of yet,but it was a delight; the use of the space spoke volumes about how well everyone involved knew their theater, the monster design was fantastic."
"They call it a "Summer Spectacle". It really is a spectacle, you follow a troop of performers around a little farm and adjoining fields, there are things happening close and far, in streams and in the trees. The actors are are top notch. Don't miss the next one."
