Reviews of The Towers at Longfellow Apartments
"I have been living here for a few years now in multiple units so I have a good idea of the experience. PROS -This is the most square footage that you can get for your money if you want to live in a high rise building in Boston. Most other buildings, especially the new ones, are tiny with no closets. -The location is very good. You are right next to TD Garden, MGH, North End, Beacon Hill and several T Stops -It's easy to transfer between units if you want to upgrade to more bedrooms, etc -You get a balcony -Depending on you unit you can get some nice light and views -You have air conditioning, a luxury in Boston -You don't have to pay expensive broker fees -There is a package room and bike room so you have some piece of mind that your belongings are safe. Storage units are available but in my years of living year I haven't been able to secure one. -The maintenance staff are very nice and friendly and usually fix things very quickly after you put in a work order CONS -It's an old building and not in any way luxurious. Things break, a lot of the finishings are on the dingy side. -The insulation is horrible and the heating and cooling is electric, so your bill will be at least $400 a month to heat your 1 bedroom in the winter. That's the price when I am wearing 3 shirts, 2 pants, 2 sock layers and slippers so it's not like I'm toasty warm at $400 a month. -There is CONSTANT construction and noise. There's always something being inspected, repaired, remodeled, etc. You don't see the benefits in your quality of living - most of this is done to pass inspection and then they cover the cost by jacking up the rent. I often do not get notified when there is going to be work on an apartment near me. If you work from home, do NOT live here! -The elevators are constantly out of service -My rent went up over $1000 in just 2 years. The rent in Boston is expensive everywhere but that is a pretty high jump for a non-luxury apartment -You have to pay for the pool, don't be fooled -There is zero security. Anyone can just walk in and go up to your floor or live in the stairwells. -The gym is very dated and doesn't really have the right equipment. You can tell they didn't really design it for someone who lifts weights. -No in-unit laundry Overall I put up with it because I need the space and love the location, but I'm moving to another state soon and can't wait to leave here. Most of the non-luxury apartments in Boston are pretty old/small so if you are coming from like a north end or beacon hill apartment this might be a dream to you but after being here a few years I am ready for a more affordable city with modern buildings."
"Some apartments are in very bad/old conditions. Ac units constantly fail and have to request services almost every month. When something doesn't work or cant be fixed they say that this type of problem is not qualified for any type of compensation. Elevators, AC, blinds... Concierge and office Staff are great but you should really look for other options before renting. ps: electric bill during winter can be as high as $500"
"The elevators at these apartments break down CONSTANTLY for weeks on end. Management provides the same copy paste response to all complaints and promise solutions but do not deliver. Residents requested elevators are not reserved for moving when only 1 is available, and management agrees to block reservations, but then continues to allow them. Ridiculous. If you don't want your day to day life be extremely frustrating, do not move here."
"The community managers, leasing team, and service team members at the Longfellow Towers are great. We have found everyone to be professional, considerate, and responsive. The response time to service requests is very prompt — sometimes within hours — and the management team is readily available and communicative in person and over email. The team at the Longfellow Towers is what has propelled our experience living here from good to great."
"Just to give you a first bad impression, the swimming pool picture they use in the ad is not included in the rent!! Cons: 1) Heating is a major issue, as the monthly bill can skyrocket up to $400 in a studio, and the place still doesn't feel adequately warm. My home stays between 60 and 63F!! Don't fall for it when they say that it depends on usage. The unit is not well insulated, and I can feel cold air from all the surrounding holes. 2)The leasing team schedules multiple concurrent construction projects both from the outside and inside, disrupting regular business hours and making it challenging to work from home. 3) Safety concerns arise due to the absence of security personnel during the night, leaving residents vulnerable. They only send reminder emails after safety incidents, emphasizing the need to lock common doors behind you. 4) Comfort and cleanliness are compromised after construction projects, as contractors fail to clean up the mess they create in your home. 5) The lack of rent control in this building means that after your lease is over, you can expect to face the current market price, making it an unfavorable option for long-term stays. Pros: 1) Location and views 2) The front desk staff is very nice."
