"I found South Shore Animal Services on a Google search looking to see where I could get my 8mo old kitted spayed. When I called to make the appointment, the staff were very friendly, very accommodating for the date I was looking for and they had great reviews online as well as being an affordable clinic. My concern is what transpired after my kitten was spayed. Surgery day was 12/7 drop off was 8AM and pick up was 5PM. When we picked her up at 5 PM, she was extremely lethargic, which is to be expected, but her left eye was almost completely shut. Thinking it was simply the anesthesia and time needed to be allotted for it to wear off. After doing some research myself online it was her third eyelid that was protruding visibly. Two days later I contacted SSAS because her eye was not getting better. She was extremely lethargic and still not eating. The office offered for us to come in right away and be seen. The doctor took a very quick look at her eye, and said it was simply an eye infection and prescribed some drops. I nervously asked her if this would get better, she voiced to me the words absolutely. It's now almost a month later and the problem still is not corrected. Two weeks after her initial spay surgery, we finished the course of eye drops as instructed and the problem had not improved. I wasn’t comfortable going back to SSAS so I decided to go to a different vet for a 2nd opinion. Different eye drops were given also ear drops. Not only did I have to spend an additional $330 going to another vet, my kitten now has to be seen by an ophthalmologist. I want to make it clear, my kitten had ZERO issues prior to this spay surgery at SSAS. The whole situation has become so costly, and I have an additional 3 weeks wait for that appointment. I called SSAS yesterday looking to speak with the office manager and spoke w/Annie. I voiced my concern to her and really wanted to understand what transpired at this spay appointment 12/7, was my kitten mistreated, was she involved w/an altercation w/another animal there, was she given too much anesthesia? I'm sure this may not be the case but sadly, I will never know what truly took place that day. While the eye was the largest concern, her ear was also very sensitive. I truly believe when SSAS cleaned her ears (a service offered during the spay) they went way too deep. The 2nd vet I went to did testing on her ears for yeast, mites and anything else to rule out. They told me her ear canal was so tiny that they may have gone too deep. Also, while I was there, I asked the 2nd vet to take a peek at her incision. She said it was fine, no redness, swelling or discharge but there was a suture that was not 100% closed (I may have the wording incorrect). The vet said nothing needed to be done (unless it opened more or became red/swollen/etc) but she advised me to put some bacitracin or A&D ointment on it. I did the bacitracin and after 3 days the incision was completely closed. I asked Annie for a refund, or a partial refund at the least. She told me that they would never provide a refund because services were rendered no matter what had transpired and there was nothing more she could do for me. Not only has this accumulated a huge cost of at least $770 thus far, it was supposed to be a straightforward procedure that was advertised as "affordable". The worst part of this is not even the cost, although I never anticipated this simple procedure would cost me upwards of $800 (I've previously had 2 cats and a dog spayed w/zero issues), it's not knowing what happened to my kitten that day and knowing I willingly took her there for care and now she is still not 100% recovered. I felt like I was to blame for this happening to her, I cried, I felt and still feel completely helpless as a pet owner that I willingly took her there and there is nothing I can do. Also Dr. McAdams's bedside manner had little to be desired. PLEASE, if you love your pet like I do, do lots of research on where you can take your furry loved for care. Affordable is not always the best, sadly I've learned."

"Dr. McAdam and her team are absolutely top notch!! I have only been lucky enough to use her services once. When my mother's cat wasn't eating, we brought her to South Shore Animal Services as a second opinion after spending an extraordinary amount over multiple visits at another vet and coming to no resolution. Within minutes of the appointment, Dr. M identified a likely tumor in the cat's abdomen by touch (using her hands). X-rays confirmed the worst and our cat is now over the rainbow bridge. In this sensitive moment, Dr. M and team went above and beyond to comfort my elderly mother and make her cat as comfortable as possible in her last moments. This combination of endless compassion for both humans and animals involved combined with the knowledgeable, high quality care is not something to take for granted. I'm extremely grateful, thank you!"

"The doctor had no bedside manner and I felt like she was way behind the times and she was cheap didn't pay well for lot of work. I actually had to put my dog down there and I worked there she made my gamikybwait in the car for an hour and she was just cold. She also gave me no break in anything. I thought she was coming to my house to do it but she said it will cost 150 dollars I didn't. We got her cremated and when we got the certificate back it had the wrong name. I left after that she was not fair to work for and I busted my butt trying to please her. Her manager at the time was awesome I was just overwhelmed and wasn't worth 16 an hour"

"This was my first time bringing my sweet kitty to the vet and i think i was more nervous than she was. But as soon as we walked through those doors i wasn’t nervous anymore. the two girls who were there were so kind to me and my pet. they walked me through every step, they made sure she was comfortable and even more so that i was. they assured me everything would be alright and helped me with filling out forms. they also didn’t break the bank which was lovely for me. i 1000% recommend South Shore and will definitely be returning should god forbid anything happen with my kitty."
